If you are referring to B5 systems, they are moving rather slowly. I know as I communicate with Brownells on projects and we got started well after B5 and still beat them to market.
Yes, the wrist gets a little narrower to accommodate the MI hinge- at some point you aren't building an AR-180, you are emulating the look of the original. The original AR-180 stock is also a lot narrower and does not have storage, but no one seems to mind we put it in the stock.
At some point as a designer you have to decide if are you going to exactly copy the original, or just go for the feel of the original, which is what we did.
