How do you guys store your mags? Any ammo type cans out there made specifically for mag storage?
|
|
[#1]
Yes, there are specific inserts for ammo cans, but capacity of the can is significantly reduced.
I buy mostly USGI aluminum mags, so they simply stack up more better. I bought cheap under bed type bins, up at the Walmart, to put my NIB doomsday stash mags under a spare bed. |

.50 cal ammo can holds (18) 30rders or (14) 30rders and (8) 20rders USGI of course

Well, I bought some 50 cal cans and my magpul 30 rounders are too tall. Metal ones fit fine.

USGI wooden footlockers. Got several stuffed and another black plastic gorilla box with AK/58 mags. Course several other wooden ammo crates for other pistol/rifle/smg mags. Loaded mags going into bandoleers/LBEs/Plate Carriers/Safe

I have a cardboard box that I keep extra new pmags in.
My usin mags are in the gun and in a range bag. |

Akro-Mils AkroBins® Easy to retrieve and put back magazines, stackable, and durable. |

I’m a big fan of the MTM ACR8 Ammo Crate Utility Box. It holds about 54-56 GI mags or about 48 PMAGs.

Fat .50 holds I think 28 mags (?)
And a full box of loaded mags isn’t that heavy. No need for anything special beyond that. |

I found these Husky professional 12 gallon totes at Home Depot. They fit 30 round pmags standing up, 4 rows across by 20 long.

[#18]
USGI .50 cals and plastic ammo cans from BP/Cabela’s. I can get 3 inside an old tube sock so they don’t chafe against each other. I frequently haul on long road trips for vacation otherwise I wouldn’t bother with the socks.

Not loaded, home depot yellow plastic tubs, stack-able.
Loaded, in a few ammo cans. |

I just use the large (12x12 I think) USPS Priority Mail boxes. I had a bunch and they’re free, and they stack well in the closet.

View Quote I used this method when living in an apartment. The ergonomics to reach in, bend over, and pickup heavy cans at the bottom sucked but it's a good method to secure ammo you don't plan on touching for a while. |

I STILL like the padded Midway magazine cases. Fifteen or so 30rnd magazines, padded, and with a strap for shoulder carry.

As I continue to run out of space in my dinky little apartment, I think I'm going to mimic a buddy of mine's setup.
He has one of these Craftsman toolboxes in his gun room for mags that he wants easy access to. One drawer is all Glock mags, one drawer is all HK and MPX mags, one is all 5.56 mags, etc. This would work well for me too I think. Right now I have mag in cheap plastic bins from Target inside a couple of Plano Sportsman's Trunk. Works ok but it's a pain in the ass to dig things out sometimes. Thinking of going with the Craftsman tool cabinet for everyday access, with the rest of the mags I don't intend to use right away in the Plano boxes. Of course, for loaded SHTF mags they're in a .50 ammo can. |

It would be extremely handy, rolls around, etc. Drawers make organization a breeze. Also they open easily with heavy, loaded mags. Small drawers up top can house accessories like mag parts, loaders, etc… One con is lack of security. It can be easily rolled away and stollen? But the drawers lock. Now we need to start a thread: How many mags fit in a craftsman tool chest…. |

OP, the FAT 50 is what you seek. The .50 cal cans are too short to store the mags vertically.

A box, a plastic tote whatever will stack the easiest. If you buy them by the case, don’t even open them and stack the boxes…
Use a tool bag when going to the range… |
