Awesome!  Thank you!  I wasn't sure if the PAQ paddle switch would operate with the RAS unless a clearance was milled out for it.

Found one with the SF on it.

Wish I could remember where I had the velcro switch.  I think it was between the rails on the left upper side, so I could activate it with my thumb, using the VFG like a handstop.  I used the light clearing houses and night missions.

Well that was 2005 when we were still utilizing a VFG as a VFG.  Things evolved to using the VFG as a handstop for a relaxed C clamp style shooting.   For me it didn't change the placement very much, just slightly forward, due to PEQ and light placement with a carbine handguard and lack of real estate on the rail.

Crazy!  I was at KRAB Aug-Nov 05 with ASOS, TACP,  aligned with the 116th BCT.  TACP house was next door to the pool, GO AF! Spent time at Ft McHenry doing clearing into Hawejah and the Zab River area.  Also went to Barbarian Base in the middle of Kirkuk for a night mission. I never saw ODA guys while I was there,(that I remember), but supposedly our rotation before mine did missions with some.  I had fun and tried to stay longer, but the TACP division leaders wanted me to go to Division.  I went home instead of Division desk duty.  Might have seen you guys at the DFAC!

Getting some stuff together for a m4 build.
I know the ras handguards are kind of hard to come by. So I'm probably not going to be able to fully finish it for little bit, but I am getting the rest of the stuff together.

I have the a aero clone lower. And most of the lower parts.
I have a aero upper. I'm mainly missing the barrel and handguards.

What's a decent barrel to go with?
Windham weaponry has one, for a decent price. Not sure the quality though.
I was looking at ballistic advantage, but have read some stuff about qc issues.

Should I bump up my budget and go with something in the $300-350 range?

Not seeing many companies offer fsb barrels currently.

If you can get a DSA 14.5 or 14.7, they are very good 1/7 chrome lined barrels for a reasonable price.  You can also order it pinned and welded from the factory.

DSA bbls are solid. Nice park/chrome, appropriate GP diameter. Accuracy typical of mil spec.

I wouldn't say "regularly", supply/demand is all fuckey these days.

Also, the Windham bbls are damn nice kit. I would have zero reservations running one.

I used Colt SOCOM 14.5 barrel for the Block I
for the MK18 (CQBR), I used a Colt Gov't profile 14.5 barrel cut down to 10.3 by ADCO per crane specs (.070 gas port size)
I chased and used Colt C MP marked barrels on all my clone builds...just a personal preference but there are a number of barrel options out there.

Windham is in stock, I may get one in 14.5. And wait on the 10.3 from ds arms. Windham only lists their 10.3 in 1x9 twist.

Here's another option: https://androcorpind.com/product/ar15-barrel-crane-spec-inch-barrel-crane-spec-barrel/

Some info on the barrel, I haven't used one: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?200616-Andro-Corp-MK18-(Crane-specd-GP)/page2

Shark Arms has them from time to time as well.

Is this the correct spacer? Do you still like this setup? I was thinking about getting a pro with the old caps and using a Wilcox or Larue Mount. These would be cheaper and looks similar to the old QRP.

That's it man.
It works fine and looks better than the QRP 2 spacer, IMO.

I've since changed mine over to the original QRP or Wilcox mounts.

Here is a thread that really explains a lot along with an increasing list of cage codes for most of the firearms and accessories manufacturers we tend to use or buy from.

Lot of information in this thread, so if I missed it, I apologize.

But for block 1.5 rifles that were using a YHM tri rail, what would be the correct front sling mount?

I’m guessing either the cqd or the kac rail sling mount(non qd), but I can’t find any solid pics.

Anyone have pics of, or know the actual sling mount used?

Thanks!

Almost done with my block 1 clone, just need to get an acog and a sling.

Is there a clone correct mount for the ST07 switch?

Also what acog should I go with the TA01NSN or TA31,I thought I read something about the TA31 being used but could be misremembering

We used the standard usgi black sling or even a padded m249 sling for the most part from 96 to the mid 2ks.

Don’t throw too many rocks at me…..  It’s not completely clone correct, but I did do some load development and was very happy with the performance.

14.5” Colt RO921 barrel (M4 profile)
Surefire 3 prong perm attached by ADCO
DD SOPMOD Block 2 rail
Colt upper
PRI Gas Buster
Geissele SSA trigger
Leupold Mk4 1.5-5 in Larue mount
B5 SOPMOD stock
Surefire SOCOM 556 Mini (I’ve got a lot of Surefire cans and I like the Mini’s on the longer barrels)

I’m very happy with how it did.  Really seems to like the Hornady 62gr Soft Points over BLC-2.

Group size was about twice the size with my 77gr SMK load.
