Would it be sacrilege if I put an Ergo grip on mine?    I can't stand the A2 grips.  I guess I could buy one and put it on when I want to take pics of it or something but I'm going to want an Ergo on it when I shoot it.  Surely some Marine at some point swapped out an A2 for an Ergo, right?!

If you were going off the FB cloner group unspoken rules yes much haram, unless you have a period photo. Hell most of our guns wouldn't pass scrutiny there.

Just get one from Mohegan21 and call it a day.

Btw..the felt difference between a commercial grip and his f-marked grip is night and day.

So I've had this Trijicon TA-31D 100581 for awhile and thought this said USMC but is actually USNM855. Getting old

I started making an M16A4 clone (planned to use a DD RIS II), and then diverted and went M16A5.

Not done yet, but anyone else do this? My major departures are the Magpul UBR2 instead of the VLTOR EMOD (UBRs are already used by the marksmanship team, so it's not that unlikely that the UBR would have been selected instead), and the ARMS #41 BLP folding FSB (not pictured).

Probably doesn't belong here, but I'm having fun with it.

Curious about USMC issued visible weapon lights around 2012-2015. I understand the PEQ-16A was in circulation, but what else was commonly being used/issued around this time? Were these usually unit purchases or individual? Hoping someone could....shed some light on the subject for me

...I'll let myself out

That’s cool

My “A4” has a Centurion C4 quad rail instead of a KAC RAS.

fuck yeah

Check PK firearms... Not a bad price for an upper and rail.
There are very few places where you can still find these uppers, I would recommend jumping on it.

Unfortunately, it isn't in the cards right now. I've got the everything but the upper and an A5 RE itself, but I'm concentrating on optics now instead of guns.

Someone with a little more knowledge feel free to correct me...

As I understand it, the BFG/Vickers VCAS sling is a relatively recent adoption for the A4 by the USMC, sometime in the '20-teens. Before that, the Spectre gear sling was used, but it seems like slings were never really standardized on the A4 much between the Army/MC. I've seen photos where guys have old black web silent slings, Garand/M14 slings, specter 2/3 points, Viking vtacs, etc. As best I've ever been able to tell, there was a lot of unit/individual purchase of slings so nailing down a single "correct" sling will really just depend on you trying to replicate a particular rifle or a rifle from a certain era. FWIW, my A4 build is geared towards an end-of-the-line A4 used by the USMC around 2015 so I went with the BFG sling and buttstock adapter.

It's a little convoluted, but hopefully that helps some.

PSA premium kit with CHF FN barrel
PSA "US property, M16A4" marked lower
TA31-RCOM150
KAC RAS and KAC VFG

Im in love.

My work in progress, not so much a clone but I'm slowly getting closer. What size rail cover for in front of the VFG? 4? 6? Also need find a correct pressure pad for the surefire, sling, and stock pouch as well as an A2 grip.

PK Firearms. Either:

VLTOR VIS-KM12
https://pkfirearms.com/vltor-vis-km12-keymod-upper-receiver
Or
VLTOR VIS-KMSL12
https://pkfirearms.com/node/12384

They are both 12"
I got the KMSL12 because of the smaller profile. The M16A5 concept rifle used a standard KM12 but with a different profile; note the slightly flared section in front for the handguard cap (why??) And the double sets of locking tabs on the bottom.

I'm very happy with mine.

When I came in in 2016 the only thing issued was PEQ-16A, even if you were fortunate to get to get a PEQ-15 you still were not issued a weapon light. My unit didn't even have any lights in any armory and I saw nothing to suggest my seniors were issued one either.

That's what my upper is from further up the page.

I doubt really clone correct, but it has the right details as far as hammer forged, chrome lined, govt profile, MP'd, and made by FN.

Right details as in clone or as in good?

Issued barrels are not hammer forged, don't have M4 feedramps, and don't have a recessed crown. The PSA barrels should be the correct length, have the correct gas port size, and have the correct profile.

SOMEBODY is reading my thoughts!!

I was staring at this post on Facebook when my phone rings.  It’s a Jacksonville, FL number.  I normally don’t answer calls from people who aren’t in my contacts list.  If a name doesn’t show up when my phone rings, I don’t answer it.  I’ve recently purchased a couple of items from people/places in Florida and thought it could have something to do with those, so I answered it.  IT’S BLACK CREEK PRECISION ON THE OTHER END!    She tells me the same as what this post says and I tell her I want one (don’t need it because I got the 80% lower engraved with FN markings, but I haven’t milled it yet).  $115 plus shipping, not too bad in today’s market.

I have (2) of these A4's and single A2 as well.

In boot camp I had a A1. Then came A2.

I don't have a A1. I would do one if I could
find a clone lower. The fixed carry handles are my
hang up.

Gotta love A4's. I never had one in the service
but have taken a fall for them. That's why I did a second one.

The A4's I have are first on my list for customization.
That means optics and bipods mainly.

I don't know what if anything I'll do with the A2. Unless
I seek ARMS out for their carry handle mounts. I still have
never fired the A2. It's a lone pup LOL

My A4's are gonna be bad azz when their finally done with optics etc.

I bought Palmetto's M16A4 clone lower to go with my clone. I think it was $10 more than that, but looks the same.

Side topic, where do you get a lower engraved to match certain markings? I have some 80%'s and want to clone my brother's M4 from 2009 when he was deployed in Afghanistan.

Side topic, where do you get a lower engraved to match certain markings? I have some 80%'s and want to clone my brother's M4 from 2009 when he was deployed in Afghanistan.

I used Vader Tactical.  I bought the lower from him and he engraved it.  I think you can also send lowers to him (Randy Spade) for engraving.

Bummer, looks like he won't do Colt stuff.

I wanted to clone some issues M4 markings.

Thank you very much for the info though!

You sure?  This is one of his pics.  Send him an email and ask about the M4.

Just going off his "no more Colt retro builds" line on his website.

Maybe there's something trademarked differently with the older stuff. Email is in order. Thanks

Oh ok, I didn’t see that, I just went straight to his pics.  Well, an email won’t hurt!

I said the same thing but picked one up anyway, shipped surprisingly fast too. I really wish I picked one up when they were cheaper when I got my upper.

I had a huge smile on my face when I got to shoot my clone for the first time this weekend with the clone A4 lower. I've had ACOG's on 10.5" and 16" barrels for a decade, but for some reason, shooting with the 20" was sublime. At 100yds, I could spot my impacts, so the guy calling my shots didn't have to do anything, lol

Here’s my humble submission. It isn’t 100% correct, but my goal was to make a pretty good shooter.

FN upper with a P&S rail
KAC VFG
Colt carry handle
“GI’d” A2 grip (shaved the finger nub and added some inner tube)
Nitride bcg (a concession to maintenance)
Colt M4 lower (from a 6920)
CavArms A1 stock (I’m just too short for an A2)
Carolina Laser Works UID tag (because I couldn’t help myself)

Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go LARP “Battle Los Angeles” in my back yard.
