Yea I'm pretty sure all of ARFCom knows about it. "Old School RECCE" type of build. It's interesting watching how ARs have been evolving.

I finished this build a few weeks ago, but didn't get it to the range until yesterday. After shooting it I realized I have my new favorite, and most accurate, AR.

PSA complete upper
Aero M16A4 lower finished out with spare lower parts I had laying around and Carolina Laser Works ID tag on right side of the lower
EE A2 stock
P&S Products .mil contract M5 RAS
Colt detachable carry handle
Surplus sling with Condor sling attachments

Test fired my M16A4 with the TA31 ACOG today.  New load with Nosler 80 gr HPBT and max load of BL-C(2).  Four rounds in one hole at 25m.  My max range is only 35 in backyard

Just to be sure I have a pre 2010 surefire M951 kit for my army version A4 build but for my post 2010 Marine build I need the M952V model, but is tan or black body color accurate? I rarely see them for sale and have a chance for a black one but don't know if I need that one or tan.

PS Anyone know a good way to clean the KAC rail covers? A few of mine have that oil? stain on them and it just doesn't seem to come of with soap and water.

I don't think that's the correct one in the picture. It's one that wraps around the entire RAS, mine doesn't have a name/ brand on it, but it looks like a "t" shaped piece of webbing with velcro. It secures once around the RAS and has a little section that secures around the FSB sling swivel.

If he was referring to the one on Blue Force's website it is.

I used to consider them ugly yet useful tools for self defense, but they've really grown on me lately.

Now that I'm done with my A4 clone, I think a 603/A1 clone needs to be next.

Has anyone used a CMMG kit suppressed in an A4? I should get my can next month depending on the ATF. I had a Cmmg kit in my Colt SP1 but never ran a can on it. Any issues I should anticipate?

Is there any difference between FN and Colt rifles?

My A2 is almost all Colt, and I’m trying to make my A4 mostly FN.

FN parts have been a little more difficult to track down. I’m using an FN CHF barrel (I know that isn’t exactly correct, but prefer it), an FN upper, and FN BCG, I’m thinking about going Colt on the lower parts, as they’re much easier to source.

There must be some subtleties for sure. One that I have seen personally, is in the finish.
It boils down to what you prefer in fact, but I tend to like Colt's finish more. Colt used to have (or still has) a hairy-er type of finish; more velvet-like.
There is a sort of grain to the touch. In my experience it is not like that with FN; it's smoother, slightly glossier.

Might have been my experience but I have seen several models of both and they all had at least this same difference between them.

Have fun.

Thanks, I have one more question, those of you that are using the buttstock mag pouch, how are you affixing the sling?

I don’t care much for the side mounted sling loop on the pouch, and would prefer something higher up.

The magazine pouch I have has the sling loop located on top. I cannot remember what brand it is as I bought it several years ago. It is supposed the type that the Marine Corps was using at that time.

I am going nuts again trying to find that sling with the loop on the handguards.
I do have one in tan but don't like tan; it's too modern for the type of retros that I end up doing.

Looking for an all black one. Bought one from Spectergear which should be incoming either today or tomorrow; will post results once I get it.
I just hope it's as tough as the one that was sold - I think - by Blueforce gear (am I right?)

ETA forget about it, even the tan was already from Specter. So the one I'll be getting tomorrow should be identical.

I had a sling that sounds like the one you're looking for on my FNM16A2 around 1996-97.
It was made by Boonie Packer and had a nylon loop that went around the handguards and attached to the sling swivel. The rear was a large loop that went around the stock and attached to the rear sling attaching point on the stock.

That's it! Thanks brother, that's what I am looking for.
In short, as pictured here and the only I could find is made by Specter whom might have supplied some mil contracts as well in the past - thanks!

Was there any use of the ACOG TA11 on A4's? I know the USMC uses the TA11 on their M27's, but have any transferred over an A4?

... I'm thinking about trying out a TA11 and knowing that it could be used in a clone, might add another reason to get one.
