They show up on GB now and then but all of these places are pricey. Not sure we'll ever see them cheap again

The days of the $300 M16A1 parts kits are long gone. $700 and up is the norm these days and that, in most cases, does not include a barrel. You still will have to acquire an A1 profile lower in addition to the barrel assembly. You are looking around $400 for both. $1100-$1200 is about the average investment these days for a really nice M16A1 clone build using mostly original parts.

Complete M16A1 surplus upper WITH barrel, stock, PG, receiver extension, buffer, and spring. So basically need the lower and the LPK. Going to use a spare QMS trigger I already have.

$755, so when all is said and done (Brownells lower and some small lower parts) probably looking at $925ish all together.
