Anyone have any leads on a 20” pencil barrel in 5.56/.223? I been looking for awhile with no luck.

Brother, I’m in the same boat...  I can’t find any 1/12 20” A1 barrels anywhere.

Hopefully, Green Mountain will have some by this coming Fall...  Not much help, but you can find an A2 barrel, having it machined into an A1 might be the quickest way to complete a build at this time.

Good luck with your search!!

I would just get on someone’s list unless you feel like paying ridiculous prices.

I am on a bunch of lists, Del Ton just Notified me the 20” lightweight barrels are in stock. Their 1:9 twist not 1:12, but beggars can’t be choosers.

The Del Tons most likely will have a .750  journal. As long as you can live with that, they are good.

I plan on machining that part down.

TNTE just shipped my A1 pencil barrel. I paid for it 5 months ago. Good looking barrel 1-9 twist. They’re out of Wi.

Got my Del Ton barrels today. They look nice, and after the gas block portion is turned down these will pass for A1 builds. At least in my book. Attachment Attached File

I've been very happy with my DelTon barrel, and at least with the 1-9 twist I can still run green tips thru it if I want.

I should have bought a batch of 100 Green Mountains when I could. They will leave off the engraving, and leave them unparked too.

@Flynnchester

What's the OD in front of the gas block?  You might have to turn down that portion of the barrel too.

I’ll check when I get home.

I no longer have the original measurements, but you are going to need to turn down more than just the gas block journal. The shoulder just before the threads at the muzzle is slightly too large for a .625 FSB to fit over it.  I ended up reprofiling the entire barrel, but you could get away with turning down just the gas block journal and that shoulder in front of the muzzle.  The section in front of the FSB should be OK left as-is, but it might look a bit odd if that isn't turned down as well.  I also expected to only have to reduce the gas block journal and was surprised when I couldn't slide the FSB on past the muzzle.

You're right, I never would have guessed the other dimensions weren't the same just from looking at it.

My CMPB barrel is maybe .02 thinner than the DTI in front of the gas block area.

I just took the measurements;

Gas block .750
Barrel tip .645
Barrel inbetween the two .605

So yes, it looks like a tad will have to come off the tip as well.  Just curious, what are the measurements on a GI issue A1 barrel?

Green Mountain Blank.  White Oak Precision bbl extension & pin.  Send both w/ your bolt to Paladin Machine in SC and give them your specifications.  You'll have to have the metal parkerized or blued yourself, I just send em stainless blanks.

I picked up a 1x9 fsb lightweight barrel a few weeks ago from ar15discounts.com they sold out in about 2 days.

I searched around for pencil barrels and signed up for everyone's in stock notification and finally 1 showed up after about 6 months.

Thanks for posting this
At least it will get me something that looks right on the outside.
Maybe someday green mountain will get serious about doing a run or 1-12 pencil barrels.  Need a couple more.

Hopefully by the end of the year there will be some back in stock. I just got a 1x9 for now and will get a 1x12 whenever I can.
