Been looking at putting on on my M5 - I'd want to mount it on the hand guard in front of my LPVO -  where the bottom of the tube is ~ 1.1" above the rail.  I wouldn't want to if was going to interfere with the scope view.

I seems none of the low profile rail mount lights I've looked at specify the overall height above the rail - either to the center of the beam or to the top of the housing. Anyone have experience with a light mounted in front of an optic at typical height? (ie 1.6" scope center line above rail)

Are you trying to mount it at 12 o’clock?

I’m running a Modlite at 11 o’clock with the clicky tail cap. It’s only in view at 1x but so is the top of the rail. Could be moved to 9 o’clock without issue. I’ve tried using a Modbutton at 12 o’clock, just wasn’t my preference.

If you’re trying to run it at 12 o’clock the lowest profile light is the Inforce WML. It’s lower than the Streamlight RM2 and it works nice in the 12 o’clock position. I have one on my HD rifle to keep it slim, love it for that. It’ll be in view at 1x but won’t block the center of the cross hair which is all that matters.

Yes, am hoping to go with a 12 o'clock mount, but if that won;t work then I'd go with a 3 or 9.  Thanks for the info!

@piperpa24

What rail are you running?  I can put a x300u on my rail (urx4) and barely notice it in my tube (1-4 accupower on an adm 1.5" qd mount).  Normally i run a m600 at 10ish with how the urx mlok slots are.  If you use a tape switch you can put your light almost anywhere.

I'm using this one (UTG 12.5")

Thanks for the info  - you confirm what I've discovered with my setup (I have a 1-4 Viper PST GEn1).  When I look through my scope and lift my thumb up until I can just see it in the lower eye box its above the height of the top edge of what I think a couple of the lights I'm looking at would be, based on my best measurement assumptions.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a  Streamlight TLR RM2. Even if it doesn't work out at 12:00 I can mount it at 3 and work with it.

Roger - that'll be plan-B if 12 doesn't work out.
