I need a few cases myself, I have a IM2720 I'm going to use for a 12" pistol, who's got the best prices on foam?

The best part about this thread is to see how the rifle types have changed over the years...

In the beginning, CAR length uppers, short quad rails, the ERGO 93 butt stocks (I had two of them)....to the current 15" handguards with 16" barrels....

I have a pelican case from 1984, one well built case.

Is my Seahorse allowed? Finally cut the foam for it today for my Mod 1 and G17.

My first attempt at cutting foam.  This is not the finished product but I don't have a picture of it.  After cutting it all out and making sure I was pleased, I sprayed it with black plasti dip.  The foam is a lot more durable and looks a nice dark black.

Nice job.  Clean cuts.  What did you use?

I laid everything out on the foam to get an idea on how I wanted the layout to be.  Afterwards I traced each piece on cardboard.  I made sure to error on the inside of the piece being traced to ensure a snug fit.  The next step involved simplifying the lines.  I didn't want to follow each and every bump/curve.  I cut out the cardboard and used push pins to attach it to the foam.  I then used a cheap hot foam cutter I got off Amazon to trace the cardboard.  The hot wire would easily cut the foam but not the cardboard.  After testing the fit, I plasti dipped it all to extend the life of the foam.  I learned a lot from my first attempt and i've gotten much better at if now that my friends have asked me to do the same for them.  Simplifying the lines is one of the most important parts.  As you can see in the bottom picture I tried to follow each and every contour of the magazines.  The end result was sloppy.  I now make a precise rectangle that the magazines will fit into.  It is a much cleaner result.  I'm working on building a jig that will hold a slightly interior tracing angle.  Once that is built, I don't see this taking more than a few hours start to finish.

Have a flambu case. Wanting to improve the foam (egg shell right now).

Been looking for foam to cut as pictured, but a thought occured, what about a pliable type rubber?

Would rubber work? Would weigh more but may last longer. Thanks.

Requirements:  7 pistols and space for magazines, silencers, some ammo, mag loaders, dessicate.
Selection:  Pelican Air 1605

I decided to make the ends rounded, so I used a hole saw to drill thru the kaizen foam.

All cut and layers glued together.

Then a coat of Plastidip to make the foam more durable

Cut the bottom one inch of foam out for some more magazine storage.

Final product.

With a bit of cloth for cushion, I can get two full size handguns in each slot in the 69 position, so I can actually get 14+ in here.  I decided to make the slots very large for this flexibility, but also because I'm in the market for a 6 inch revolver which will require the extra length.

This is very handy for range travel and will make for a good experience staying proficient with each, compared to dealing with several separate pistol bags.

Got a 1600 today to fit a broken down 14.5” and other stuff.

The pluck-n-pull is ugly, but functional.

Second layer, 6 30rd Pmags and plenty of extra real estate. May do a Glock set up in the future, or leave the room for more mags. Undecided for now.

I would just say 'less is more'.  I have a Pelican case with only 2 rifles, 2 optics, and a bipod and it's HEAVY!  I wouldn't recommend adding the weight of loaded magazines to it, especially since you'll most likely be using more then the couple that can fit in the case.  Also, I left a cutout for my suppressor in my case as well, but found that I store my suppressors in a separate case with their wrenches, attachments, etc.

Inside is just 1" foam with egg crate foam on top since I usually pack it full with my shotgun and clothes.

But the outside...all the breweries I've hit and a few misc stickers.

Will this throw off their scent?

Lots of business travel with per diem.

Anyone have an idea for a big range day loadout in a M2750 case?

Tied of loading up ammo cans and a range bags and pistols, all in different cases.

What is the thin material that can be used to add rigidity to foam for use as pull out trays in a double layer setup?

A sheet of kydex would probably work. Or even use a sheet of whatever that corrugated plastic is used for political yard signs.

Are you going to use the plastic dip spray to harden up the foam?

In my application, I could find no good reason to apply plastic dip. I'm not sure why people do that. The foam is generally firm and supports the contents of the case very well. Just don't make cuts so close that the material between the items is overly thin.
