Not sure if this is a deal or not?  Just thought I'd post it if anyone is interested.  $566 after tax & insured shipping.  Not sure if I'll part mine out, or just drop it on an extra lower for a K.I.S.S. rifle.

LEO TRADE-IN ROCK RIVER 16IN .223/5.56 A2 H-BAR COMPLETE UPPERS $499.95 Aim Surplus

Almost $600 for just a used upper seems a bit steep.

Not really a deal

Bless AIM. Most of the time they’re spot on.

Then sometimes they get it REALLY wrong. File this along with their Jericho mishap, and when they were charging more for Gen 1 40S&W M&P beat to shit trade ins than a new M&P cost.

This is a $400 upper. Maybe. RRA uppers are $5-600 new, and Rock River is still living in 2003 when it comes to features and materials.

The fixed handle upper market is still artificially (?)  high.  These still would have sold out at $700, imo.

That's kind of how I saw it.  Complete A2 upper Receivers are $200+ alone.

With the comments posted here, I'm actually shocked they sold out so quick.  But I don't know how many they had?  Mine should be here Wednesday.

You will be glad you got it. The older RRA agency stuff is well made, and on par with anything Colt was making then. Could make the case better even than contract rifles of the time.  You'll love the A2 carbine set up and mid length gas. Those Hbar's are heavy but shoot well and heat up slowly. It's probably just about new internally but got cool surfaces, because most of em ride around the cruiser and only get shot once or twice a year. Id jumped on one but I missed it.
Is A2 stuff high now a days? What isn't. I did get one of these carbines for about six hundred bucks, in 2008 or 9.
I wish I saw your post earlier OP, you won't be disappointed.

HBAR?  I'd do a "not-a-bump-saw" build.  I think its a nice find.  Hope you're happy with it.

It’s difficult to put a value on something that difficult to find.    The build quality of these older assembled uppers is also something to consider.  I wouldn’t be dismissive of it outright.

These are the words of a man completely under estimating the demand of A2’s. That’s not even a good deal and those went lightning quick.

Mine came today.  I was pleasantly surprised that I got $70+ in extras (side sling swivel & MI Tactical light mount).  There's a few areas of wear on the top of the carry handle.  And the FH had wear (until I dunked it into touch-up bluing).  No marks on the barrel except "212" under the handguards on the heavy barrel.  Per my research, this is a RRA code for "Chrome-lined Mid". And should be a 1/9 twist.  Plenty of gunk build-up on the gas tube at the sight tower and where it enters the receiver.  So much so, that I couldn't remove the tube to clean.  And I didn't want to destroy it until I have a replacement. So this might not be your typical carried a lot and shot a little LEO trade-in. It has an unmarked bolt on a properly staked semi-auto carrier.  Bore looked excellent.  Handguards wiggle with the delta ring.

Of my 4 extra lowers I had of various makes, a Spikes Tactical was the best color match (although not the tightest fit).
Overall I'm happy with this purchase.

Before clean-up.

After clean-up (I'm a lefty).

With H&R now offering A2 uppers I feel like you can build a new one for less.

Yeah how much do they charge? It’s not in stock and there’s no price.

I think I did alright with this one for $500 then.

Yeah, I think it would be close on cost if you could piece one together.  But than you're stuck with the F front sight tower.  And I'm a huge PSA fan, but that rear sight on their A2 upper looks a little short?  And they look slightly elevated to be zero'd.  I wonder if the used carry handle height sight frames?

For comparison:

I put a few flawless mags through this today.  First 3 rounds shows it's already zero'd at 50 yards (if these 10 yard targets are correct).

Looks good.  And you got a free light mount that runs just under $40 on MI's website.  I wouldn't be surprised if one day these late 90's/early 2000 guns had there own sub-forum.

Nice upper, too bad about the twist on the barrel though.

Fine with me I’ve almost got 1:7 in everything else. About all I shoot is 55gr trash anyway.

There's a lot about this deal that doesn't excite me, and turns me off.  The twist rate isn't one of them.  1/9 is fine.  In a world of 62 gr mk318 mod 1 and 62 gr XM556SBCT3;  77 gr Mk262 is a match round for longer range shooting.  That's not what a 16" A2 sight rifle is for.

Yeah, I didn’t care about the 1/9.  I shoot mostly 55 gr.  And this is just another range toy AR variant for me.

Yeah was glad I got the MI pic rails. I’ve got a lot of the GG&G versions on other ARs I have. I like the GG&G one because it has the sling adapter or QD attachment though.

Seems like a good price, but all the ones I saw are detachable carry handles.

I saw that and almost picked one up. Just don’t know if I want to gamble on their quality.

Shot the RRA upper today. Love the irons on a carry handle. Only shot 25 yards with Herters .223 and was putting rounds on top of each other. Haven’t shot an A2 upper since OIF 7. Definitely glad I picked it up.
