Like some of you, on the hunt for a 20” pencil barrel

Put everything together today, the color is a Rustoleum grey, we’ll see how well it holds up.

The darker coloration on the finish is the oils from my hands while assembling it, later I will put a light coat of oil to see how it affects the finish.

Oh hey, I almost forgot.
Look on gunbroker and spell Sarco backwards=Seller named Ocras2007,  and they are selling the same barrels for about $10 more. May be some of those left as well.
Good luck!

I've had those for years in my parts stash, I really like the mottled look on a retro clone.

Thank you I appreciate the pics

Did the baking even out the finish?

Usually that primer drys? Texturized?

I am still liking your results, looks damn good.

I experimented by heating the part after applying the primer, the surface is not as smooth in some places. I need to paint a part without baking it to see the results it makes.  The nozzle gets clogged easily and needs to be cleaned after each coat.

I rubbed petroleum jelly (boy butter) into it yesterday and it made it a little darker, wanted to help even out the finish.  The paint is holding up well to having oil applied to it and doesn't chip easily.

My barrel also arrived yesterday and I assembled the rifle, will take pics when I get a chance.

For this recent build I just wanted to build a slick side (model 604/SP1) clone.

Your early 604 looks great. Especially with that almost perfect motting! I agree that your early flat side lower 604 would look better with a 3 prong FH. But in your defense if you choose to keep the bird cage, the USAF M16's were mix matched as the years went on so anything could be correct. Nice job!
