I'm running low on "upgrade" money.  Looking for an inexpensive, but not cheaply built, handguard.  I found this one on evil bay:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/223-15-Ultra-Light-super-slim-MLok-Handguard-Free-Float-Clamp-on-style-/312037075655 that looks like it might be decent.  Any thoughts, or should I just pass it by?

This ACME exclusive handguard brings all the flexibility of M-LOK®, for those who prefer the lighter, sleeker look of a freefloating handguard without a top rail. Perfect for optics, this handguard is made of durable aircraft grade aluminium alloy, and finished with a long life matte black coating.

Don't buy a no name handguard off EBay.  There are lots of not great experiences with them.

ALG is your best option for a low cost and quality handguard.

15" is out of stock but:
11"
13"

Both MLOK and made in USA.

More or less in the $60 range.

Just install the barrel nut, gas block/gas tube/handguard and it's good to go. No alignment/shimming needed.

Don't buy a handguard off of ebay. Have you looked at STNGR? I have a RPTR 13" on mine and I love it. Very light, slim, really easy to install and around $100-120. It helps that it looks cool. Made in the USA! There are 3 different versions in keymod and M lok. The RPTR has 4 rails built in to the end, the HWK has a rail at the top and bottom and a cutout at the 3 and 9 positions, the VYPR is a normal handguard. My wife bought it for me for xmas.

This is mine. I've added a light mount for my Blackhawk legacy but weather has been rubbish so I haven't been able to take any new photos. I've had keymod rails come loose so I wanted the stability of the built in rail.

The UTG Pro Super Slim are very good. I have gone the real cheap route and won't do it again. ALG is also good but more expensive after you add in the parts UTG comes with. I cut corners where I can, but you have to know when to stop.

My first thought. ALG.

There are some good recommendations here. ALG is a great buy. I've always been a fan of Midwest Industries. Maybe not inexpensive in terms of actual dollars spent; but a good value compared to some of the other popular/common offerings.

What do you actually plan to mount on the handguards? If funds are that tight, there's nothing wrong with running some standard HGs or the polymer stuff from Magpul. I get the interest and allure of all the aftermarket bolt-ons, but they're not often necessary. Might be better served spending that money elsewhere. Or saving up for something a little nicer and proven.

I'm waiting on STNGR to come out with a new line of shorter rails. Finding almost anything in an 8" length is tough.

I just got my STNGR handguard in today and really like it. I'll likely be ordering more. Can't go wrong with ALG though (and I'll probably end up with at least one of those as well).

ETA: STNGR should have 7" VYPR handguards in 1-2 weeks and RPTR and HWK versions are also in production

Those rails suck. I bought one a while ago before I found out about ALG. I currently own two ALGs and zero Quantums.

They are better than the V1 rails but I prefer the V2 and even the V3 over the Quantum rails.

It's better to pay a little bit more and buy once than it is to take a gamble on purchasing something cheap and then having to replace it if it is junk.

Another "buy with confidence" for the utg pro.

I've owned 3 over the years when the super slim craze was at it's peak and everyone wanted $250+

They are a good product.

You can get Daniel Defense Omegas cheap on the used market because pic rails are out of style, but it's a damn good, lightweight free float hand guard. Those are what my poor, old fashioned ass uses

Checkout Midwest industries website, they usually have some good deals in their clearance section. I’ve had good luck with that in the past.

I got a 15" toob with end cap and barrel nut from this vendor to finish my AR9, no complaints on either the vendor or the inexpensive hand guards

I just installed a very similar 10" ebay handguard on a AR pistol.  I liked it so much I order the 15" version for next build.
