will all the talk of m193 specs, i decided to pull bullets and weight powder charges from all my recent lots of IMI M193. wish i had a chrono to go along with this....

year    lot    weight
2009   238k  27.1
2015   234d  27.1
2015   243f   27.1
2016   219h  25.9
2017   238h  26.5
2017   239h  26.5
2017   271h  26.1
2017   283h  26.5

from velocity tests that buffman did i noted this with his 20";

year    lot    vel
2015   231f  3202fps
2015   233f  3154fps
2017   310g 3154fps

Interesting information, thanks.  It's interesting how the powder charge is exactly the same at 27.1 grains up until 2016.  Did you measure the weight of a few cases per lot or just one case per lot each?

just one. i'm thinking about doing another round from each lot for a better confirmation...

Manufacturers use a “canister grade” powder.  It not like H335 or IMR 4895 or AA2230-  It’s made to provide a specific result.  The performance goal can be the same with different powder lots and charge weights.

Without knowing how the velocity correlates to the reduced volume of powder, we don’t know a whole lot.

True. I hear there is some slight difference in burn rate/pressure from lot to lot of the same type of powder. But it seems that velocity has come down a little the last few years so there may be a correlation with charge weights. I doubt the factories change types of powders completely very often so I'm inclined to believe it was intended to reduce velocity.

I for one am not looking for the fastest FMJ/M193 clone but rather the most consistent and accurate for the $$. But I understand many people rely on XM193 for HD.

Exactly, I doub't IMI is using different lots of powder, esp when they are using the exact same powder charge 6 years apart.  Sam admitted that he talked them into dialing down the load, and there is also a direct correlation between velocity decrease in this period of time.

Consistency and accuracy is important, but so is velocity.  Ideally, you'd want all three.  I wouldn't want a .223 55 FMJ load no matter how constant or accurate since you're loosing out on 300+ FPS and 5.56 FMJ needs velocity to be terminally effective.

As long as the round is at least combat accurate, I want the fastest velocity I can get for M193 type loads.
I never bought Independence XM193 before because it had a reputation for such poor accuracy when it first came out, even though it was incredibly fast.  They dialed back the velocity a bit, it is still the fastest M193 type out there today, but now it also has good accuracy to boot.
