I recently tried an aero precision adjustable gas block on one of my rifles. Throughout the adjustment range, I did not notice much change. I was never able to get the bolt to lock back on an empty chamber even with just a standard carbine buffer and the gas all the way open.

I took the gas block off tonight and noticed that even when I back the adjustment screw out, the gas port hole always appears to be obstructed by the adjustment screw. I thought that as I backed the screw out, less of the port would be obstructed by the adjustment screw.

Am I thinking about this all wrong or is the gas block goofed up?

Sounds like there is something wrong with it or there is another issue like a gas leak somewhere or misaligned gas port because if the bolt is not locking open it's not getting enough gas and if your port is fully open you should be getting enough gas.

What you want to do is start with the gas block closed so that it will not cycle a round. then open it a turn at time with only 1 round in the magazine keep doing this until it cycles a round and holds the bolt open. Then give it either a half to one full turn for insurance and shoot only the same kind of ammo you adjusted the block to. If you are unable to do that there is something wrong with block

You're thinking is correct, as you adjust the screw in or out it effects the amount of gas flow.

Problem might be the gas port in the barrel is undersized so even wide open it's not enough gas... what barrel are you using?

Ammo choice can also effect the results.

The Aero is a unique design in that it has a chamber to accommodate carbon fouling to prevent the single screw design from locking up. The regulation actually happens further back where you can’t see.

It’s a stupid simple design, and a good one. When they first launched it they messed up though and threaded them wrong. I wonder if you don’t have one of the early gas blocks. If you call them they can tell you, and they will send the new screw to you if that’s the case.
