WHAT?!?!?! You don’t have a rack with your M-14s on it???

We did!! Every room had a rifle rack and we’d just rest our M-14 in the rack and that’s where they’d stay while we went to class, etc. They were always ready so when it was parade time (or maybe some laps in the area!) we could just grab them and run out to form up!

Where the heck do you keep them now? I guess you’ve got an arms room or something now - probably for security reasons.

Oh well - as we used to say, “THE CORPS HAS”!!
.
.
.
What I’m doing on these long winter nights is admiring a couple of the retros I built this year that are under the Christmas tree.

BTW - it was cold today (68) in Daytona Beach, but will be 75 Sat and Sun!??

Well, I traded in the M14 for the saber as a Firstie.  The lower 3 classes keep their M14s in their room (except I think they’ve turned them in already for the holidays.) We still have the rifle rack.

I thought I was alone with watching TV (with the wife) while one of my rifles is in my lap. She has grown so used to it that she does not even notice.

I've done all I can with retro rifles but I love coming here.  Boring winter nights here in Wisconsin will be soothed by drinking beer and cleaning the engine/frame and small bits of a 1969 Triumph Trophy that I'm restoring.

Doris' cousin!

Wrench. Ride. Repeat.

Triumph Motorcycles. Turning ordinary men into motorcycle mechanics for over 116 years!

That's a nice looking old war horse right there! M1911's > A1's!

Care to slip her out of her shift and show us her glory?

Actually a true 1911 made in May of 1918. I added fake stag grips to mimic the Longmire gun. The bonus there is I don't bang up the original wood grips as I wear it around my property.
The officer whose name was on the canvas bag that came with the gun served in France in WWI and Occupied Japan in WWII.  I have not been able to verify if the gun was his carry gun (most likely, as he retired in 1957 and this gun has not been in an arsenal rebuild), but do have a picture of him in Japan. He was from Beatrice, Nebraska, which is near where my wife grew up, so there is a local interest as well.

I have been in contact with the great-nephew who got the gun from Col. Stoll and have shared some of the history I found about him.

We have one made in 1915 in my safe. My uncle has my grandfather’s, which was also made in 1918, and he carried through Korea.

This one was my grandfather’s:

Absolutely AWESOME!

I don't know where mines been and I don't remember what month of 1918 she was born in but here are a few handy pics of her.

Like SheepDog's grandpa's, she got re-arsenaled in WWII and was parkerized and arsenal stamped left side behind the trigger.

And just like SheepDog's grandpa's they didn't update the mainspring housing, grip safety or hammer and left the safety and take down blued instead of parkerized.

(Yes the mag is not fully seated. When the pics were taken I had little ones and I didn't keep one in the pipe or keep the mag fully seated. Now the mag is seated but still on an empty chamber.)

None taken.
It DID start out as an AR post, but quickly changed over to the 1918.
Not so coincidentally, I posted this picture on a 1911 forum the same night:
