I’m looking at buying some of their 55 grain Hollow Point match 5.56, it’s around .42 cents shipped, I need good accurate plinking ammo. How has the Frontier line from hornady  been preforming?

ETA: bought some of it, pics below

Didn't you just post that you bought some on the ammo thread?

ETA, yup, sure did. Not even a minute after posting this thread, lol.

Can you post a range report of ten round strings and what barrel was used from 100 yards?

We love science

Tagging for a range report update with pics.

I picked up some of the 75gr at Bass Pro shops. I will try it out. The price is great. If it has a decent velocity and decent accuracy, I will use frontier after I am out of IMI 77.

6in circle at 100 yards, this is a 20 shot group from a bench with no rest (forgot it at home), barrel used was a Spikes CHF FN 16in mid length, optic was an Aimpoint pro. The ammo shot pretty well, wouldn’t call it match but I will definitely buy it again. It’s way better than your typical XM193.

Thanks for following through

Looks like I'm going to try to pick up a box of this and the 62 to compare to the groups that I shot using their M193 and 75 OTM T2.

I have a bunch of the 62 grain SP. Can't wait to see your results. I wish @BlueFalcon would do a gel test on it. Hint hint.

All of Arizona right now has shooting restrictions out in the forests due to fire hazards.

Wait until the monsoons hit us in July.

Good shooting !

And, I suggest you try some of the Frontier 62gr BTHP as well.

And I gotta ask... with the red dot, does it cover your point of aim ? ... if so... I suspect you could improve your precision by...

Using the red dot as a reference point, but not covering your POA... IE , placing the red dot just below the POA, and using the top edge of the red dot as your focus  targeting point.

Also, when shooting for precision testing, I suggest you turn down the intensity of the dot... making for an easier / "smaller" focal point.

Thank you for your suggestions I had no clue about the whole putting the dot below the bullseye, I did put my red dot brightness as low as possible, the red dot covered some of the target also.

I guess it has this bullet?

Link

not listed as a match bullet when sold as a component.  Plenty of places seem to have this on sale right now for ~40 cents a round.

Just curious why that Hornady/Frontier ammo has a Federal lot number??

Because Frontier is loaded in LC brass at Lake City using Hornady bullets.  Its a joint venture.

Does the Frontier line have crimps?  Curious for reloading purposes.

It’s loaded on Lake City brass, I would go ahead and assume they have crimped primer pockets

Yes. Same too with the LC made for Winchester M193 as well.

I've reloaded both cases. Same LC primer work.

I've shot both the factory loads of Hornady Frontier and the Winchester to get that brass from the harvest. Frontier is cheaper and more accurate because of the use of Hornady projectile and is 1 MOA possible. The Winchester shoots barely 2 MOA and costs more. LC itself is a 1.5 MOA. Cheap and prevalent. All three once expended have great load capacity.
