I’ve never fired an AR-15 or other Modern Sporting Rifle. Closest thing would be an M-14 I had to famfire when the USS George Washington SSBN 598 (B) switched out our Thompsons. Not a lot of call for rifles on a nuclear submarine, the only purpose is to repel boarders in a hostile port...which occasion never came up.
Anyway, I’m a handgun fan, 1911s mostly, and a reloader, but the idea of owning an AR-15 came up when I discovered (quite recently) that you could build your own. So that’s what I’m setting out to do. My .300 Blackout 8.5” pistol build kit arrived today, and I had purchased a stripped Anderson lower and a couple of mags on Saturday. I already have new Lapua .300 Blackout cases and a set of reloading dies...now all I need is some bullets (on order), some powder, small rifle primers, and...a completed AR pistol.
Will be working with an Anderson certified armorer at my local gun range to do the build this Thursday. Since I can barely tell one end from the other I decided to have a tutor while putting together my first build. I was hoping to do everything from pieces, but the pistol kit from Palmetto State Armory was too good a deal to pass up...so I have a fully assembled upper...and a lower parts kit.
Well, until something happens that’s all I have to say. Will be looking to steal some of your best ideas to increase my knowledge as time passes. See you on the boards.
