Lolz. I'd rather buy a KAC SR15 for $2000-2100 and then that Caracal CAR816 for $900 than drop $3000 on a partial parts kit.

Can a standard lower, bolt and barrel be used? Like basic Colt M4 parts?

My understanding is Brownells has clone lowers and reproduction barrels in the works. Don't know about the bolts?

A standard lower should work with the upper though.

Standard lower can be used (stronger recoil spring and heavy buffer should be used). Also standard bolt will work, but it is considered emergency measure. Barrel and barrel extension are proprietary (you can make barrel from barrel blank, but you need to use HK barrel extension or clone).

10% off $99 or more at Brownells Code 2AD + free shipping

Takes a little bit of the sting out of some of the parts.

Brownells didn't do a good job pricing this out...sorry...but there are enough HK fan boys in the USA that will pay this and some.

If these were selling, Brownells wouldn't need to throw a $500 gift card to entice buyers.

Brownells coupon. 10% off $99 or more Code L37

Take 10% off that drops it down to $2700 and then take $500 off for the gift cert brings the total of the kit to $2200.

You then can use the gift cert to buy the barrel and half of the bolt. You would be in a new to like new parts kit for $2800ish.

I'm not a huge HK fanboy either but why buy wore out or heavily used parts kit on GB go for the same price.

That's true and a good point. I haven't looked to see what the going rate is for used HK416 uppers recently. But pricing can't be too far off each other.

However on the other hand, the Brownells' still expensive for an upper that doesn't have a true HK barrel or HK bolt.

Yeah I much rather have a true HK upper with a proper HK barrel than this crap of a parts kit from Brownell's...only thing that Brownell's did right is the reproduction lowers.

Cheapeast 416 upper I've found online was going for almost 4K and that was used.  The parts kit from Brownells are orignial HK parts so not sure how its crap.  You could find a HK barrel online, difficult but not impossible.

Botach and Clyde has them for under $3K with the original 10.4" barrel.

If I really wanted a 416, I would go that route. Even if used, at least it is real HK upper. Rather than an expensive Brownells sold HK416 parts kit and then still needing to source a non-HK bolt and barrel.

Even if used, I'd much rather have an authentic bolt and barrel.

Nothing about this Brownells kit is attractive to me.....All the money you're spending on this and it still has their name on the front of the magwell in horrible giant block lettering.
