I'm looking to build a 20in government profile. Has anyone ever had experience with Green Mountain barrels? Specifically, the head spacing. I know every new build needs to be checked for headspace first, but I was curious about the barrels from this vendor.

Green Maintain is GTG. They make button and CHF barrels for many manufacturers. Two of my Colt 6920 barrels were built by GM per Colt specs. As far as I know they are of the majority barrels suppliers to Colt.

I can say that my GM 10/22 barrel was excellent. I sold the rifle but miss the bartel.

Thanks for the info guys. To be honest, I have three ARs and have built the lowers with no problems. But I have always put pre-assembled uppers on them so there was no fun at that. Wanted to try my hand at building the upper. That's why I was wondering about the barrels and headspacing.

I've been running a few GM barrels.
18" stainless since 2013ish.
They are great barrels.
I have 2 GM18s and 1 GM M8.
2 more GM M8 barrels enroute via black friday spending.
Love em.
The GM M8 is wonderful.
16" chrome lined. Shoots little bug hole groups.
Mid length medium profile.

GTG company and their barrels. I’ve been shooting a GM-M8 16" Mid Length gas system 5.56 mm for a few years now. And it’s way better then I can shoot!

I've got three of the GM barrels all the same 18" stainless steel, .223 Wylde, rifle length gas.  Difference is the twist.  1:14, 1:6 and 1:5.  Never any issues and great shooting barrels.  Wife's varmint rifle uses the 1:14 is a tack driver.  Still working with the faster twist and heavy bullets but need a longer range to really good data.

Yea I know.  And I have no problem with Green Mountain.  I was just asking for somebody to produce a link that isn't produceable.  Maybe he posted as an accident?

Or he mistook chrome lined for cold hammer forged.

Took out my newest GM-M8  barrel/build yesterday for it maiden voyage.
After about 40 rounds of break in, shot this group at 100 yards.

Not too bad for a 16" chrome lined 5.56 chambered barrel!!!
Load was a 68gr hornady BTHP over 23.1gr 8208 @ 2.250" OAL.

If I could have only one AR for everything...accuracy, durability, defense of life and liberty...it would have this exact barrel.

They are that good.

I've used three Green Mountain barrels.

All were excellent quality.  Accurate, too.

The finned barrel was most accurate.  A bit heavy, but a really great barrel.

Never heard anything bad about them. Always positive.

I have one of their experimental barrels. 16" M4 profile 1/6 twist.

The worse thing I have heard about them, and can attest to, is that they won't fix their .300blk barrels to not have an outdated FS pin hole and they won't add a shoulder for the gas block to but against. Other than that it's always that they don't make a 6.5G or AR10/308 barrels.

Is that 1-6 twist accurate?

According to the thread they were okay, but nothing to write home about. Realistically a 1:6 is way too fast for any factory ammo

Sionics sources their barrels from Green Mountain, however they go a step further and Xray them in-house before selling them. That being said, nothing but excellent things about Sionics' barrels, so that should tell you something.

Only did some very limited testing with my 1:6 and Mk262 77gr OTMs.  Still haven't tried my 1:5 twist.
