The rules are simple. Using a Birchwood-Casey 5.5” target, which you can get an any Walmart. Standing and unsupported, 50 rounds at 50 yards.
The gun that I used was PSA Dissipator Attached File I was very pleased with my target Attached File |

Looks damn good ill give it a try next time i go to the range
|

50 rounds? Mind if we split them to multiple targets?
Some of us are 3-4 MOA shooters on a good day and would chew the center out. |
|
|
I did this back in 2009(?), glad to see the posts by non-participants are just as bafoonish as they were then.
That's a good target OP, I'll see if I can get out there this weekend and give it a go. |
|
Good job OP! Standing unsupported, open irons, and firing every subsequent shot in just under a second... and this becomes a good drill... a great drill actually.
I like the idea of splitting up the 50 rounds in 2 targets though as another member posted. |
|
@Jolrit
That's good shooting. The last time I did this I was shooting service rifle, right now I'd be happy with an 80% target. @jmreagan Right now there's no way I'd get above 40% on the bullseye with a 1-second time limit. I'd have to shoot this a lot to get to an acceptable success level |

Please understand that this challenge isn’t intended to be any type of competition. This presents a yardstick to compare your personal marksmanship abilities with other members. I am not claiming to be the reincarnation of Billy Ray Dixon!

50 yards, 50 shots; but I only had access to a 3” pasty, not a 5.5” so the scale may look different.
Attached File I count 47 holes on the target, with 10 in the 3” zone. Attached File Shot with my new 8.5” upper from psa. Using wolf 55gr jhp steel case. |

I hope this isn't wrecked by guys who shoot once a year and claim they will shoot sub MOA, despite probably having not shot for accuracy unsupported possibly ever.
Practical accuracy (unsupported, moving, rapid fire) impresses me more than bench groups do now. I'll try and join next range trip. |

Any optics restrictions? I will bite but it may be sometime before my range will not be swamp land with all the insane amount of rain we have got lately. Next we get the little blood suckers to start showing up.

I like this challenge. I don't think I'll shoot this weekend, but I should get out the one after. I'll try to join the party then.

Neat. I hope to be able to participate. About the only change I might have suggested is to use 30 rounds. One mag....Doesn't really matter though.

I shot all 50 into one hole, Robin Hood style.
Just kidding - I will see if I can get out and do this soon. With as much rain as we have here (hallelujah, God spared us from drought this year!), it's hard to get time to shoot. I had to mow the grass in the pouring rain yesterday - I kid you not. |

gave it a shot today. Used a home build gun with a DD barrel and an MRO. Sling was not used, just hung loose. Target was a 6" diameter. Ammo was Wolf Gold 55gr FMJ.
Attached File Not my best shooting but I'm happy considering I rarely shoot standing unsupported. I don't know what everybody's definition of slow fire is but I have a hard time holding my composure for more than 10-15shots at a time so I shot 5- 10 shot strings at 2-3sec/round then took a minute break in between while reloading. ETA. Ammo was PPU M 193 55gr and not WG. |

A few weeks ago, I shot 30 rd magazine of each standing offhand, sitting and prone.
This was at 50 yds with AR pistol and MRO Pro. Firing a round every 1 - 2 seconds. Used to shoot open sites much further when my sight was better. I've always shot well from the sitting position. Never see anyone use it anymore. Did get a tick from shooting prone in some high grass. Sometimes I sprint and do push-ups, then shoot while my heart rate is up. More realistic and fun than just shooting from a bench. |

Went out yesterday to give this a go. I used my A4-ish rifle that has a 20" Del-ton 1/9 Gov. profile barrel, standard A2 handguards, mil-spec trigger, poverty pony lower and upper, BCG is ?, A2 stock, iron sights.
20180816_143623 by John, on Flickr Used Wolf 55gr FMJ. 20180816_164750 by John, on Flickr Wanted to first get a baseline of how the Wolf ammo shot, so fired a couple 10 round groups at 100 yards (well, miscounted one group and only shot 9 rounds). For this test I shot prone supported with the rifle topped with an SWFA 12x scope. The first 9 shot group was about 2.75", the second 10 shot group was about 3" center to center. 20180816_132924 by John, on Flickr The target I used is the MR-31, which is about 5.75" in diameter. 20180816_180149 by John, on Flickr Was about 90 degrees and soupy humid. I took my time doing this. Maybe not the best results but I did what I could with the equipment I had. 20180816_142725 by John, on Flickr 20180816_142825 by John, on Flickr Failed To Load Title |

So irons and optic are OK?! I feel like optics users will have a BIG advantage here.

The basics are still the same - hold the rifle as steady as you can and break the shot when the sight(s) are on target. If anything, optics kind of accentuate how much "wobble" there is when holding offhand that you may not notice as much as when shooting irons. Try it either way - the results may surprise you. |
