What length is this?  Between mid-length and carbine length isn't very descriptive.

I want something more than Carbine length and less than possibly Mid-length.  +1 or -1 or +2, etc. are simply poorly documented and confusing if you are looking online IMHO.

I am debating the Geissele Super Duty upper since another KAC seems to be unobtanium!  I don't want a parts special or game gun upper either.  My 18" LPR shoots soft and will peel Gnats off a target frame!  I want something like that in a good heavy-duty service rifle upper.

TIA,
Sid

p.s. typo fixed

What length barrel are you looking at?

Other than rambling you aren't saying much. I'd stay away from proprietary gas lengths. Does an extra 1/2 inch justify being tied into a non-standard part? I doubt it.

16" without a muzzle device and a bit lighter overall than my LPR.

I have never had to replace a gas tube on an AR-15 I owned so, non-standard doesn't scare me at all assuming it is from a reputable brand.

Mainly, I'm trying to figure out if it is more or less than the mid-length or some other common reference like Carbine +2".

"Super Mid-length, which is about an inch longer than a standard mid-length gas system. "

Not saying I have either, but any perceived gain would be so miniscule as to make it pointless. Why bother? The gains might equate to super cool internet status, but they're not going to be noticeable in real life firing.

Bill Wilson has been offering an intermediate gas for a while.  Looks like the other Bill had to have it too, and as is G fashion he had to put his name on it because it is "super" after all.

Both are basically mid +1.  Both are splitting hairs, and pretty much just marketing fodder.  I would stay with mid on a 16, just for reliability.  I have a 14.5 with mid gas that is being a bitch, gonna have to open up the hole.

Dwell time and force can be an issue when you lower the BCG thrust with various ammo options.

I have a build with a 16" G barrel with super gas length.  I'm pretty happy with it.  Running a REBCG and H2 super 42 recoil spring.

A proprietary gas length when mids already exist? Now we're jumping the sharks here.

Thanks everyone!

As noted, on 16" barrels, a lot of hair-splitting for marketing fodder but, if it works, it works!

KAC has been doing it for a long time.  Look at the SR15E3 guns as an example.

If one thing has been for certain, buying my Armalite AR10 "carbine gas" with it's proprietary 12 1/6 longer than a mid length tube has definitely taught me a lesson in doing more research before buying things. I like having common parts on hand.

16” and Mid Length Gas system seems to be very popular !
Suggest a good Noveske 16” Recon N4  barrel and Super 42 H2 buffer system

16.1” 5.56mm 416R Stainless with 1:7 twist
Individual serialized barrel for QC purposes
Hand polished Noveske Match Chamber
Mid length gas tube included
Noveske marked gas block: Low profile, .750” journal, pinned to barrel
M4 barrel extension w/extended hand polished feed ramps
60 degree muzzle crown
Bead blasted finish
½”x28 muzzle threads
Weight is 35oz
