If i want to have this 16" faxxon pencil barrel in Mid length gas system in a setup with front and back iron sight:
https://faxonfirearms.com/faxon-16-pencil-profile-ar15-barrel-5-56-nato-nitrided/

and if i do not want to mount the front sight on long rail, but rather have short rail (like 7" or so) and mount front sight on the barrel itself; is it doable?

On original Colt M4 6920 for example that front sight has integrated gas block, but this pencil barrel is a different (smaller) diameter i believe; is there an option for front sight mounted on such a barrel profile?

it seems that this is what i would need, its .625 gas block:
https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/sights/sight-parts/front-sight-bases/ar-15-625-standard-front-sight-base-prod82728.aspx

one question..the page above says that holes must be drilled, so is it really a must it seems?

so basically you align the front sight properly with hole on top and then drill out the barrel through the holes of that front sight?

Look at the journal length on that barrel, 1.1". It isn't long enough for a front sight base, only designed for a low pro gas block.
Also you'll never get the sight straight trying to pin it at home. You'd be better off using set screws (when you find a barrel that will work with FSB). You can drill any sight for 2 #10 set screws, 1 by the sling and one up through the bayonet lug, or you can buy one for $25 from rguns.net already set up with screws. This way you can sight it in at a range and get the sight aligned before tightening the screws with red loctite.

As AASG said, the gas block journal is too short on the Faxon Pencil barrels. Their Gunner barrels do have a long enough gas block journal for an FSB though. 3 to 4 ounces heavier, but still plenty lightweight.

If you haven't purchased a barrel yet just find a pencil profile barrel that comes with a FSB installed from the factory.

BTW, you mention a 7" rail, that'd leave about 2" of uncovered gas tube on a mid length. I think you need about a 9" rail to run a front sight base and mid gas system. Check to make sure before ordering.

Exposed gas tube is fine if you're not bayonetting people.

With that barrel you could install a railed gas block and attach front sight to that.
