I had never heard of the FN "special A2 light profile barrel" in a 14.7" ... and when PSA had a complete upper with that profile on sale... well, I couldn't help myself. I bought one.

FN CHF CL barrels have always been great shooters for me. IMHO, those CHF CL'd barrels are a great bargain.

The 14.7" P/W LtWt A2 profile sounds great, I have never really been a fan of heavier 14.7" or 16" barrel profiles. And the typical A2 profile with its nose heavy weight forward of the GB has never made sense to me. ( I don't intend to use my barrel as a pry bar )

Anyway... just some pics and info for ( as mentioned ) Posterity's sake.

Gas port on the MLGS is sized at .076"

The gas block journal is long enough for a A2 Front Sight GB.
The journal is .750" in diameter.
Forward of the journal, the barrel diameter is .674"




Behind the barrels shoulder, diameter is .605 gradually tapering to the chamber area , which is .665"



Barrel is clearly marked ....



The PSA upper is a Anchor Harvey Forging.


And Laser etch with PSA's Logo on the other side.


I haven't fired it yet... so precision results will come later.

Again just sharing a FN barrel profile I had not seen before.

FWIW... it is VERY much like the Spikes Optimum 14.5 profile.

It doesn't feel like a huge difference in weight, but more of a change in balance, with a better bias towards the shoulder.
It is my understanding the FN LtWt is meant to be more a compromise between a Standard and a LtWt like profile. While still offering a more sturdy profile then a pencil style.

A better, more effective barrel profile ( when it comes to altering balance or weight ) would be like a BCM Enhanced LtWt profile.

I have a BCM 14.7 upper with that barrel... it is crazy, how much weight is moved towards the shoulder with the above linked barrel profile, altering the balance dramatically.

With that said... the PSA upper does feel more nimble than other 14.5 / 14.7 uppers I have.

But, if you want more weight loss... I would try the BCM , or a Criterion CORE profile.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't think the .076 is to large for a Mid length gas system. ( Just my 2 cents )

And that matches the GP size I have on my BCM Enhanced LtWt fluted ... which is a very soft, reliable shooter.
