Just finished up my Aero M5 build and I'm taking it to the range tomorrow.  I don't have adjustable gas currently, and my understanding is .308 pressures can vary quite a bit.  I'm not shooting for accuracy, as it just has irons on it for now.  I have a good mix of .308 laying around, WWB 147, Malaysian? FMJ, Magtech FMJ, Fed GMM.  I also have quite a bit of commercial soft point hunting type stuff from 150gr to 180gr.  Hornady, Remington, Fusion, etc.  Anything that I should stay away from?   Does Tulammo generally run ok?  I found some locally I thought about picking up.  Thanks

Might as well run several rounds of everything, take notes.

I've found I have to adjust my gas block depending on what ammo I'm using, but I'm shooting weights as light as 110gr up to 175 gr.

ETA- both of my 16" BA SS barrels shoot the 110 V-Max very well.

My BA barrel shot Federal Power shok 150gr very well. Winchester, meh. Remington meh.
I have a couple other brands I need to try yet.

Range trip went well.  Only shot 70rds but it functioned 100% with everything I tried.  147gr WWB, Hornady 150gr SP and Federal 150gr SP.  I'll try some others next time out.  I'm sure it could benefit from adjustable gas but for now I'm not sure I need it.  Recoil wasn't too bad and ejection looked pretty good.  Using an H3 buffer with A5 tube and Sprinco red.

My Aero shoots Hornady 150 Soft Point Boat Tail the best.

Rifle barrels generally take 100-200 rounds before they break in and settle, velocity and accuracy wise. I would just blast away with your cheapest stuff until you get an optic (you’ll probably want at least some magnification with a .308). Once you’ve hit 200 rounds and have your optic go ahead and shoot for groups and see what it likes.

corrected - sounds like you have a great start with that rifle.  Shoot some more and allow it to break in a bit and then you can look at things like where the brass ends up and level of recoil etc.

I would avoid the Tula for the time being.

Steel cases do not retract as readily as a brass case, IE they tend to stick to the chamber walls for a little bit longer, after fired.

The tapered rounds like steel cased 7.62x39 aren't really effected by this, but a straighter walled cartridge is.

I've never tried Tula, but I've put a shit load of Wolf Military Classic through a couple of my .308 AR's, and a few hundred through my other 2 without issue. All are 16" mid length with A2 front sights.

I would not use steel cased ammo. It is destructive to your chamber.

I run M80. I have run Prvi,  Nammo, and Federal. It runs fine with or without a can.

My Aero 16"   likes the sig sauer 150 and 175 grain ammo. Winchester white box is a no go but good for breaking in.
