Does anyone have experience with the button rifled $235 barrels, or the $299 CHF ones, I've seen at Brownells and Primary Arms?

Im assuming good quality and average accuracy, about inline with a Colt, but wanted some verification.

Ive been thinking about building an FN version of a the Colt Combat Unit upper I just bought (mid gas) because the FN barrels can be found while Colt discontinued theirs.

Thanks for any feedback.

I have a FN CHF 16 inch barrel on an AR & it is far more accurate than my ability to use it.  with my not so young eyes, a PA 2X7 ACSS on this rifle a 12 plate at 500 yards was no problem. its the last rifle I would sell.

I have a Palmetto 16" M-4A1 CHF chromelined barrel from years & years back and it shoots like a house on fire with the freefloat LaRue carbine rail I put on it.

Extremely Accurate & POI doesn't change between ice cold and red hot in the strings of fire.

VERY Happy & would gladly buy more to upgrade carbines as their barrel wear out down the road.

No experience with the button rifled barrels.

I bought my wife an upper from PSA several years ago with the CHF FN barrel and she loves it.  Lighter than any of my carbines (with similar optics and butt stocks) and a real tack driver.

I should have bought one for myself but just never saw them in stock when I had some extra money to spend on it.

Great experience with FN barrels, hoping someone will chime on the differences.

Good barrels in both flavors. My Colt barrels tend to be more accurate, but I wouldn’t hesitate buying an FN CHF or button rifled

Good to hear!

The normal button rifled barrels seem to pop up in stock more frequently (only been casually looking for about a month), but the CHF seem to be more uncommon.

I'm not absolutely new to them as I did build an M16A4 clone with a Palmetto State CHF kit, but I only have about 50rds through it (with rather amazing results) so I didn't want to use my sample of one to warrant buying a few more of them by itself.

Thanks for all replies, and feel free to add more.

A couple FN CHF barrels here (via psa). No complaints, they do exactly as they should and if a shot gets pulled it's clearly not the barrel but the dummy behind it!

They have been doing barrels for a couple hundred years or so, should have figured it out.

I have a bunch of psa Chf barrels and they all shoot as good as I can with cheap ammo.

2” at 100 with wolf gold was about the best when trying for groups

But I have never bought match ammo and usually use red dots.

I drug my feet on the button rifled mid-length FN from primary arms this weekend for $209 and it's now back to $235.

Ive never seen the CHF in stock at brownells or anywhere else, so I think the button rifled is goin to be the stick for me whenever I decide to plunk down for pets for the new build.

If you're looking, RifleGear has 14.7 (carbine and midlength) FN CHF barrels in stock
Bought a midlength just a few weeks ago. Will probably have it cut down to 12.5"

Dang, that's tempting. I wasn't going to go that short for the P&W, but I do like the idea of shaving off some length.

Yep! I ended up ordering one when I saw that email come around. Might not be the best barrel money can buy, but it will do just fine for it's intended purpose.

I've got a few of the PSA FN CHF/CL barrels & one of them from Centurion as well.  All of them are plenty accurate.  Buy with confidence.

Welp, my button rifled CL middy showed up from Primary Arms. Barrel looks great through the plastic. No markings under the HG's or near the chamber.

Marked in front of the GB journal with "FN B MP 5.56 NATO 1/7" and then marked 5.56 NATO AGAIN at the muzzle That annoys me more than I would like to admit.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to cloning my Colt 6960, just with FN parts, in the coming months.

So do people constantly starting threads asking what kind of barrel they have, the twist rate, caliber, yada, yada yada.

Is it safe to shoot 5.56 NATO in a 5.56 NATO2 barrel?

No, you need to use 223Wylde ammo, only.

Surprised FN's "milspec" buffer tube is only 6061 T6 - at least the one I see on PA.
