I own a collection of LPVOs and have pretty extensive use of those plus the 1/4 spectre in various run n gun and 2-gun matches in both day and night.
The issues that you're running into for an LPVO could be solved with a separate dot. On my LPVOs that are situated on guns for low light, mounting the dot overhead works great. I would advocate getting a 1.5 height badger Ordnance C1 plus an RMR or DPP plate for it. The 1.5 height plus top mounts puts it at a particularly attractive height for passive use under night vision. I would personally prefer a T2 for this, but Badger hasn't released that option. Either way, an RMR mounted on top would certainly have solid 1x use, battery life, and usability for passive use at night.
For your role, depending how much heavily you weigh factors like overall weight, an elcan could be among the more optimal deals. Although, I expect an elcans passive night vision use to be not as great, especially given how far back I usually mount my elcans... the typical rear-favoring placement typically doesn't mesh well with passive aiming. I haven't shot my elcans much under passive, so I cant say too much about that in particular.
if you're going down the LPVO route, for under 300 yards and in, I agree something like a 1-10 would be overkill and pretty heavy for you intended role. I think something like a Leupold Mk6 1-6 on a Badger Ordnance 1.5" C1 mount with an RMR on top would work pretty well. Pretty good balance of weight along with possessing good capability to do things beyond that 300 yard range as required.
