Thinking about installing a drop in unit on a new build.  Reviews are all over the place.  Velocity, Timney, TriggerTech, CMC & Elftmann etc.  This would be for a range gun on a sandbag.  I just want a nice, smooth pull around 3-4 pounds at most.

You guys have any experience with them or preferences?

I use the Larue MBTs in mine.  Inexpensive, quality product.

Larue MTB-2s it’s a 2 stage 80 bucks and I like it just as good or better than the others (I have most of the ones you listed)

Love my Hiperfire 24E.  I have it set to 2.5lbs.  A hair of pre- and no over-travel.  Crisp and nice.

I previously used Timney triggers in all my rifles.  However, they've all been replaced by Geissele SSA-E triggers.  The Geissele is far superior to the Timney.  IMHO

Seriously.
The larue fan bois strike again.

Yes, its cheap, but it also feels cheap but more importantly its not a BENCH gun DROP IN trigger.

Timney are awesome but I really like the CMC. Breaks like glass. Perfect for me.

National match Geissele if you’re willing to venture outside of drop in?

Probably the nicest trigger you can ask for on a bench gun

Keep that to GD. Trying to offer options outside of drop ins which are limiting but you really like to hear yourself don’t you.

You really can’t go wrong with either of them

TTU or AR Gold at high end and agreed with lower priced options: Rise and CMC.

I've had good luck with the CMC versions. I have one going into my next project gun.

I’m pretty sure CMC invented the “Drop-In” trigger.

The CMC was the first drop in trigger I had seen for AR’s. It also is one of the better single stage triggers. Lantec has a real nice single stage drop in trigger marketed to 3 gun shooters. It looks like it is made for Lantec by CMC.

I own and like the CMC 3.5lb single stage and have always liked it. At S.H.O.T. I tried a lot of triggers. That Elfman trigger was really impressive.
overbuilt but for sure was the nicest I have felt

CMC single stage 2.5# drop in is incredible,
Larue MBT 2S for non drop in are amazing, especially considering the cost.

CMC Drop in per your requirements. If you consider non drop in, Geissele.  I ran up on a good deal on some CMC 3.5lb triggers a while back and put them in all my rifles. They have sense been replaced with Geissele SSA-E and S3G triggers. Strictly my preference.

I have a drop in Elfmann, very sweet single stage trigger. I also have a Hiperfire 24c which is very sweet also. The hiperfire isnt a drop in but they just came out with a drop in version. I think you would be happy with both.

How did this discussion not get shat upon by the velocity trigger shill yet?

I have only owned a CMC and liked it very much. I shot a friends AR gold and loved it. I’m not sure it was good enough to justify the price over the CMC but unfortunately I was not able to shoot them side by side. I am intrigued by the elftman and would like to try one.

Has tried MBT, Rock River 3.5 Varmint, and still own Geiselle SSAE, S3G flat, SDE flat

Drop ins in order of favorites:

CMC single stage flat - unfired. Fingerbanged

Elftman flat adjustable - sold

ATC Gold flat adjustable - installed unfired, Fingerbanged, thinking of selling. Trigger hook is too skinny

Triggertech flat - 2 adjustable,  1 fixed 3.5 blue. Would buy another or 3

TriggerTech.

Swapped all my AR's from Geissele because of the adjustment feature.  After adjusting to your liking it just feels like butta. Also purchased for my bolt actions as well.  Every so often they have sales so it takes a bit off the top.

Just my .02 thanks.

I have the CMC in a Colt 9mm PCC. It’s a very good single stage trigger.
Especially the fact that it’s a drop in module.
I prefer the SSA-e triggers but the cmc works fine.

I'm one of those weirdos that puts a 3.5 lbs Black Rain Ordnance drop in, in all my builds.

Easy install and has a great crisp break, along with an amazing reset in my experience.

Though many given suggestions on here are good as well!
