I haven't seen any discussion or info regarding this part. Besides the obvious differences regarding the other NFA fcg components, I've been wondering about this.

M16A2 burst hammer:


Compared to an M16A2 auto hammer:


It's clear that the "hook" on the former is more pronounced, thinner, and protrudes further. Are the two interchangeable? What's the reasoning behind the change? What gives?

The disconnector surface on the burst hammer is wider so the secondary disconnector....actuated by the burst wheel, has an engagement surface.

A burst hammer will work in an auto gun, an auto hammer won't work correctly in a burst gun

FA hammer - narrower disconnector ledge, even axle bosses. Burst hammer - wider disco ledge, narrower right axle boss (for burst cam and spring).

Thank you - that's precisely what I was looking for. That would also explain why some "burst" hammers are also labeled as for auto, but not the other way around.

If anyone has a resource for further reading on these types of minute technicalities, please let me know.
