Were the Vietnam era rifles using cut down barrels or specifically made barrels ?

Factory 10.5 and 11.5 barrels.

You can buy them new.

A retro 10" XM177 barrel in mint condition might be tougher.

Thanks gentlemen , that’s what I figured . I have an 11.5 from 1997 but it is ‘90’s style commando with the brass deflector . I’m not sure I want to take it apart to make an XM177 clone .

If you find one, then you will need to find the EVEN MORE RARE, early bend gas tube to go with it.

SA has factory lightweight 11.5s. For about 750 bucks

I know , right ! ? I was thinking of getting a pencil barrel and cutting it down but I hate to ruin a good barrel .

If you had one to copy, could you not bend it your self? I am assuming the tube length and ID would be the same.

I would guess that they are heat treated after bending, so it would be very difficult to bend. If it was easy, originals would not be so valuable, because the repros would be identical.
