Back story. Rifle NIB , zeroed far right to on matech and Acog . Returned. They had it 4-5 months.  Told by customer service the report was going to be a barrel swap. I got it today. If they changed barrel, they change upper receiver also.  My forging was a keyhole. It’s now a square.  And the case deflector has NO shell casings marks.  We’ll see . I hope to take it to range Sunday.  Also they gave me one where the front sling attaches normal. My original one had the type that was mounted sideways through the front sight housing. I may call about that. Attachment Attached File

I know the receiver is different. The CS guy said it was a barrel swap. Arfcom and myself thought receiver face was not squared. I marked the barrel / front sight housing with a dot of yellow paint when I sent it in. Here’s the invoice paper they sent back to me. Also here’s my returned rifle . See the smeared yellow. It was a small dot. But smeared now.  I don’t care how they fixed it . As long as it’s corrected. I’ll know Sunday Attachment Attached File

So they put your barrel into a new upper and removed the side sling mount and installed a bottom one? Very odd, but Colt does strange things...

Are you sure that’s your yellow mark? Colt barrels have been marked with a yellow dot for years now.

If that is the OPs original barrel the yellow paint smear would say the FSB was messed with.  If it was a replaced FSB the flash hider would have had to be unpinned.

I don’t really think that is the original barrel.  I am kind of curious if it is a socom or govt profile under the handguard on what he got back?

Guys, they most likely just gave him a fresh barreled upper and forgot to add a Side Sling Adapter.

Ha ha. All the luck in the world.  I marked my barrel near the FSH with a yellow paint stick. Seems colt does also.  I think it’s a new barrel and upper 100%. It has the milled flats under the KAC rails. I’m taking it out in the morning.  Attachment Attached File

Also the spacer behind the flash suppressor has a taper to it. I think my other one had a flat style. I could be wrong about that. Attachment Attached File

Looks like a winner (for precision).

My SOCOM came with a broken Matech and I called Colt and they replaced it. Took a month, but they sent me new one. I am sure they will do the same with the side sling swivel

I had a factory upper from PSA that I slapped on to a complete lower I had for a truck gun. Went to shoot it and it was all over the place at 50 yards with good ammo and a rested bench. Got it home on the bench to disassemble the upper to see what was the issue. The Barrel Nut was tightened over 150ft-lbs and with No Moly grease between the barrel, receiver, or barrel nut and the muzzle device was way over-torqued. I reassembled with Moly and torqued down the barrel nut to 40ft-lbs the MD to under 10ft-lbs... Next outing it was shooting half inch groups at 50 yards... Just my experience with horrible accuracy from a factory upper/rifle...

Yeah that shot gun pattern at 100 I’m sure was all me.  I couldn’t see the center half the time. Foggy , glasses fogging up. Sweat running down my face. I got a viper pst 1x6 I think is going on her. Haven’t made up my mind.  But it needs a home. Cheers Wardawg

OP stated Colt changed his barrel and his upper receiver (different forge mark on the upper). So it seems more likely Colt just replaced the entire upper.

That would cost more. Plus, the missing side sling swivel leads me to believe they just replaced parts.
