That’s the first I’ve ever heard of them continuing the restricted markings on a rifle after the AWB sunset. I thought that after the ban ended, Colt just sold the 6921 as a factory SBR that looked identical to the 6920 other than the unpinned 14.5” barrel.

The restricted markings continued for a few years after the AWB sunset. I own or have owned a 6920, 6940, 6944, 6520, and 6721 with restricted markings.
I purchase my first Colt 6944 (6940 with a 14.5” barrel) from SAW in the fall of 2010. It came with a M4LE roll mark, restricted markings, and LE083XXX serial number. (It also has standard size FCG pins for those who track such things.) I purchased my second Colt 6944 in early 2012. The second 6944 came with a M4 Carbine roll mark and no restricted markings (serial number LE103XXX).
I purchased a 6920 in early 2009. It came with a Colt’s Law Enforcement Carbine roll mark and restricted markings. I can’t recall if it had standard or the larger sized FCG pins.
I have a 6940 that I purchased front the original owner with the Colt blue label box. It is somewhat of an anomaly in that it came with a M4LE and restricted lower with the standard 16” barrel.
I don’t know the production dates of my restricted marked 6520 (LGC039XXX) or 6721 (LBD026XXX), but I believe both are post AWB.
