Guy on another forum was selling USGI Colt 40 round magazines that were new in wrapping for $20 each, no pictures. I've never seen or heard of these, sounded questionable. But the guy sold about 20 of them over the course of a couple days, people were buying them up.

Am I missing something here?

Colt has never made nor sub-contracted 40 round magazines.  The only reliable factory metal 40 round AR type magazine was the Sterling AR18/180 series.

Buyer beware.

These are all over the place. Have been listed by the big boys (CTD, Sportsmans Guide, Midway, etc.) and lots of indepenedent sellers in auctions and forum boards.

Seems that nobody wants to post a picture of the floorplates. Hmmm...

I think they are all National Magazines manufacture. The only connection to Colt is that they've put that name on the sticker labels. I don't know if Colt authorized that, but I doubt it.

Got one, has no markings on the mag. Has a Colt floorplate.
Of course, it was not purchased new, I can't authenticate it!

It also looks like the baseplate isn’t wide enough for the mag body, or the metal body is too thin. A real Colt mag wouldn’t have that much of a gap along the side of the baseplate.

Good info to know!

Magpul is more my cup of tea, but have a few Colts!

Does anyone have a photo of the floorplate on one of these straight out of the package?

Wondering what National Magazines is using.

that's an obvious POS mag and I'd say the base plate looks to be a counterfeit, or if not counterfeit, has been swapped.

a lot of counterfeit Colt C marked uppers in circulation recently as well.

The old PMI 40's were very good. They are just as dependable as my Sterling 40's.

You're right about Colt never making 40's.

I saw a couple sellers with these at the gun show over the weekend. They seemed to be heavy like steel too. I didn't have a magnet to check.

Out of curiosity, what are these bogus magazines selling for?

Colt needs to track down the source and sue the crap out of them!

I want to say they were in the $25-30 range. Cheap enough to maybe try one but not high enough to scare everybody away.

ETA - if I could find one at a local dealer where I could return it if it didn't work I would probably try a couple - maybe they used the Sterling dies.

There's another thread on here about "Colt" 40 round mags. Never happened.

There were a number of metal 40 rounders out there ranging from horrible to great, but none were OEM Colt.

That label is technically correct, but obviously misleading.
It fits the COLT AR15. It is not made by Colt. Look at how the label is printed.
