I'm on the lookout for Colt 20-rounders and keep seeing listings that say "Colt Sporter 20-round magazine" and "Colt 20-round Magazine."

I took the two to be synonymous, but I keep seeing enough of the first one to cause some hesitation.

Is there any difference of is it just branding?

Thanks.

Mags are all the same afaik. There may be some difference in how the floor plate are marked based on the age of the mag

Some of the older colt 20 rounders came with removable U type inserts that limited round count to 5. Hunting purposes). But they are full 20 rounders

Thanks all, I appreciate it.  I thought that was the case, but I'm never surprised to learn things are different than what I thought when it involves the gun industry.

Nobody mentioned the rivet in the floorplate to keep you from removing the floorplate to take out the 5 round spacer. That is a Sporter mag.
My Colt SP1 that I bought in 1981 came with 2 20 round magazines with the 5 round spacer in them.

@tnw50cal, so you're saying that it would hold 25 rounds without the spacer (and with the right spring)?

The rivet was only present on the later magazines.  I don’t know what year they started to place the rivet.  The 5 rd mag that came with my 1964 SP1 was certainly not riveted.
