I saw a little tool that holds the upper reciever open - the Dewey Link or something? Uses the rear detent pin and hole...
However it was $20... a little expensive for what it is.... anyone know of a cheaper option that works? Or even one that I could 3D print with a MakerBot printer? Or, do I just need to suck it up and buy the damn $20 thing Dewey link? |

It would be easy enough to make it out of a ribbon of sheet metal and a hole punch.
I also thought the various hold opens were too pricey. I shall now make my own. ![]() |

One tip, if you do make your own, is to buy a clevis pin long enough to use for the pivot pin spring/detent install trick.

I use a vise and have a magazine block that I use very rarely. What I normally do is take my upper and lower receiver apart, clean everything and reassemble my AR. I have a work mat that I use and I have been cleaning this way since before I bought a vise and work bench.
