Just ordered a CMMG M4 barrel w/ bolt system to build a dedicated .22 LR AR-15. Any recommendations on which magazines to purchase and any pro's or con's.

I shoot a lot of .22lrs out of my upper with the cmmg kit. I used to just use the standard CMMG mags and they work well.

Then I found a pretty neat item that I can't live without. Called the Better-Mag S&W mag adapter. It takes a S&W .22lr magazine and use it with your cmmg kit. Sounds pretty silly, until you realize the bolt catch is functioning as designed instead of just holding open by the magazine lips.

I got mine from https://www.redi-mag.com/product/better-mag-s-22-rimfire-magazine-adaptor/ they're pretty quick. The only thing I don't like is the sponge that comes with it. I don't know what it is for but it gets quite dirty.

Ah beat me to it.

I do know CMMG had a bolt catch adapter with their kit but apparently it never worked so they dropped it.

I have a bunch of M&P 15/22 mags that l use with my cmmg upper conversion kit upper l built as well as the 15/22 but you need the redi mag adapter
that goes into the magwell to do so.

For me it made sense so l didn't have to buy more 22lr mags.

The m&p mags work great with the kit and adapter.

So if you are in similar situation that would be my suggestion.

“Right To Bear 25 Round AR15 .22LR Magazine”

Same magazines are the OEM CMMG’s.. from what I can tell.

The CMMG mags seem to run pretty well. Under no circumstances touch the mag when it's in the rifle though, you will have malfunction. Seems like a good idea to load them a couple rounds short as well. I like the ideal of the S&W mags, but I rather like the CMMG/RTB ones that look like the real thing.

I built several AR 22's and have owned a M&P 1522
I prefer dedicated AR22's and my mag of choice are Blackdog mags.

I have used the M&P mags and adapter,  they are good, not a bad choice  but Blackdog mags are superior...
CMMG mags suck...

Black Dog Machine also replaced an old cracked mag  for me fee of charge.
It came with a Spikes ST-22 I bought.
So I bought 3 more mags and a basic loader.
It also helps that they are 20 miles from my house......

Great company all around.
