I picked up a can of this stuff at academy for about $8.00 just to see what it’s all about. It’s main selling point is it prevents rusts by forming a barrier and fills up pores in the metal and dries instead of remaining oily.

I did a quick week long test.  I took 2 sections of bicycle (KMC x11 for those curious). I throughly degreased them with citrus degreaser, ran them through the ultrasonic cleaner with a 1:1 ratio of water to simple green.  I removed the chains and dipped them in alcohol to disperse any simple green and any remaining contaminants from the ultrasonic cleaner.

I then took the trusty dremel tool and roughly sanded off the nickel plating on the chain side plates of both chains.

At this point with all traces of protective coatings removed the chains will start to rust in their own.   That wouldn’t do.

I mixed up a solution of a fuck ton of salt to dunk the chains in.   One chain remained in treated, the second was given a good healthy spray of barricade.

I let them sit in the puddle of salt water and would dunk them a few times a day for about a week.  I didn’t think to photograph along the way.  ?????

The first pic is at the end of the first day.

The second pic is about 20 minutes in.   The untreated chain has began to rust already where the treated chain has not.   Even with the salt water and rust run off getting under the treated chain

I didn’t get a pic of the end of the week, but the untreated chain was a rusted hunk of solid metal.

The treated chain not only functioned but had no significant rust or pitting.

I got a couple cans of Barricade just because I liked how light the oil is and how quickly it coats everything... I very much dislike the odor of the stuff though.

Used the wipe many years ago. Smelled kind of like shellac when I applied it.

Been using the stuff for over 20 years. A friend that did Civil war reactments turned me on to it.
He said they had their guns outside in all sorts of weather and the product worked great.
I use it on the outside of all my guns, a quick mist and a wipe with a clean soft rag and rust isn't a issue.

I love barricade. I treat all my reloading dies with it. Works extremely well.

If I have something already rusted, I usually soak it in evaporust, rinse it extremely well with water, then soak it in kerosene or diesel fuel for a while (to remove traces of water).

Then just wipe off the fuel, blow it off a bit, then spray it well with barricade.

If you use evaporust but only air dry it, in my experience it rusts much faster. Kerosene or diesel fuel prevents this and is still safe to use.

I have been using it for years...

A coworker that was on the local sheriff's office reserve told me about it....said it was good at removing fingerprints....now what direction he was going with that statement, I am not sure, but that is what has stuck in my head from many years ago.

I keep a can out on the garden work bench, spray down my shovels and rakes after I wash them.  My wife has a pair of gardening sheers that she paid over $70 for (her watching YouTube gardening shows-they are the Knights version of sheers) and I use on them and has protected the sheers from rusting

Birchwood Casey Barricade used to be called Birchwood Casey Sheath.  They just rebranded it with a catchy name.  Same Stuff.

That's correct. I've used it for decades and it works!
