Don't know much about bipods.  Do you guys consider panning an essential feature in a bipod?

Stuck between a Harris S-BRM notched 6-9 or Magpul Bipod.

I kinda like the Harris more but if pan is really recommended I'd get Magpul.

I dont want to spend $300 on a bipod

If I were setting up for 3-gun, etc. I wouldn't have a bipod at all UNLESS you were expected to take long(er) range shots while prone, etc.

The pan function on the Magpul renders it just about unusable but you can lock it out.  The tilt is nice so you can level your reticle on uneven ground.

Harris makes a 6-9 notched leg bipod that pans and it's not 300 bucks. I think I paid about 100 bucks for mine.

I dont like panning, just swivel (side tilt) with an adjustable tension lock. Panned bipods can alter the way a gun recoils and how shots land. If the adjustment for a shot is small, not panning is no big deal.  If it is large, you should be adjusting your whole body anyway and panning bipods are more difficult to get square each time for consistency.

Mostly this is a preference thing. Bipods are fior prone shooting the vast majority of the time. I have two Larue versions of the Harris due to the improved QD integration vs other add on throw levers and I like the low profile knob vs a long PodLoc lever. Definitely prefer Harris over Magpul and even over many Atlas (though I am in the minority) Specifically prefer Harris over Altas without PodLoc or the older rolling leg versions, but the new Atlas with PodLoc and cant only are great, they are just expensive.

I'd go with the Magpul bipod with your choice of QD mount. I typically go with ADM QD mounts for accessories.
