Like the title says i have a psa freedom mid length upper on a budget build. Would like to put a light on it but i can only find mounts and brackets that look retarded. How do you have a light on a similiar setup?

I have a couple Picatinny rails that bolt on through the vent holes of the handguard.  I can mount a light and a vertical grip.

I recall that one of the light manufactures makes a small plastic bolt on rail to mount a pistol light.  Maybe Surefire?

I have both in my junk bin.

Hhmmmm, where did you get a pic rail for the vent holes?

These are surprisingly solid and work well. Will only work on the skinny HGs by the way.

Maybe another option if you still have the A2 front sight tower.

I always used the mako dual pic rail that attached through the vent holes. Pretty sure mako discontinued them, but CAA does make something similar.

I was using the GG&G Slic thing for awhile. Picatinny rail on one side and a sling loop on the other, works pretty well and very solid.

I’m using one with fat M4 hand guards.

@aimatdeer

If you take a polymer magpul rail section and sand it down a little on the bottom in a V shape it will wedge perfectly into the top of the handguard. You can position it so you can put the bolts through the vent holes in the top of the handguard (check first as I’ve not tried every rail length). Then you can use a variety of Picatinny light mounts.

I’ve done it on several and it is very solid. It even works fine with a $10 Amazon pic rail light mount.  Elzetta makes a pic rail mount that is a little more expensive, but it holds the light tighter and lower to the weapon. No QD with it, though, if that’s a concern.

@Knife_Sniper
have you every seen an offset mount like yours that clamps directly to the handguard holes?

The one above has that exact feature.

Once you cam the large lever it expands polyeurethane doughnuts in order to trap it in the handguard holes.

Did you mean like a permanent mount?
