I want a 22 upper that will go on a regular ar15 lower. I have a lower with a franklin binary trigger. I would love to be able to use it and do mag dumps. Dumping 556 right now hurts a little bit but 22 could still be fun. Also needs to be threaded so I can suppress it.

CMMG & Spikes used to make good ones and I suppose they still due.

Built two .22 dedicated ars with cmmg and taccom parts both suppressed along with a very custom 10/22

I have a CORE Rifles dedicated upper that was built with CMMG .22 system. Works great normally. Works ok with binary trigger but ammo plays a role with it.

I can’t seem to find any 22 uppers in stock. Are the CMMG conversion kits good? And do they work with binary trigger‘s?

I built mine using the CMMG barrel and bolt kit. I don't have experience with binary trigger compatibility.

cmmg with redi mag-better mag s&w mag conversion. bolt locks back and s&w mags are easy to load, easy to find / cheap and very reliable. I'v got cmmg bolt and barrel 4.5 inch with 8 inch bcm mcmr handgaurd 6inch suppressor sticks out the end less than an inch. runs flawlessly...

i bought a PSA 16" upper. i just went to the shooting range to finally shoot it. i run a US Optics TS12 on it with a Geissele mk8 rail, and have a BCM blem lower with a Geissele G2s tripper and LOVE THE FUCK OUT OF IT. when i went last week i only had 2 mags and shot 250rds of Fed 36gr and only one FTF and it was the case issue not the gun. now that i finally shot it, im kicking myself for not stocking up on them rounds when they were in stock the last few years.

Tactical Solutions uppers work great.

Tactical Solutions no longer manufacture their dedicated 22 LR uppers.   The CMMG Pattern with .460” collar and barrel stub are the most common today.  Right to Bear has everything you need to build an AR-15 dedicated upper or conversion kit.   PSA uses a CMMG pattern bolt and barrel.  Nordic Components sell a complete upper as  does JP.   Compass Lake Engineering sell an expensive but accurate dedicated upper geared to DCM shooters.  Beyer’s Barrels and Lothar Walther barrels get good reviews for accuracy with AR-22’s.

I wouldn’t recommend the Chiappa dedicated 22 uppers.

Tippman Arms a complete 22 LR on the AR-15 pattern.   The Tippman is probably closer to a true rimfire AR-15 than the S&W  15-22.

I think the CMMG has the most support in the AR-15 rimfire market today.

I’ve got a 16” PSA as well. It’s amazing and gets shot every time I shoot.

The best 22LR upper is Compass Lake Engineering. However, it is not for mag dumps and it would probably be cheaper to buy 223 ammo instead.

With prices at the moment, it would be cheaper to purchase the CMMG parts like majority of us has mentioned in the posts above.

FWIW, Spike's Tactical left the .22LR game in or about 2010.  One does see used and occasional NOS Spike's though.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

Have both, dedicated CMMG .22 and bolt conversion kit. They are accurate and run flawlessly with no problems. Recommend Black dog magazines.
Do it, you'll have no regrets.

I know S&W .22 AR are used a lot in my local matches and tend to run great
I have had a JP and DPMS .22 ARs and they use the Nordic Comp bolts and they to me are the best .22 ARs in the business
Tac Sol are also some of the best
I haven't used a CMMG but haven't heard anything bad about them
I had a Spikes and had zero issues with them but back in the day many people had complaints about them so I would pass on them
Im planning on moving to the next level in Steal Challenge and will build a JP ultralight .22 upper when stock becomes available again

RTB had CMMG bolt groups in stock yesterday/last night.

https://www.velocityfirearms.com has the deal on barrels/collars and are in stock.

JSE and Aim have both sent me email in the past 2 days about uppers (no FA/door or with) as in-stock.

Doesn't seem to be a rush on hand guards and muzzle devices.

Build it up and go

The best..That is easy..Mine,LOL

Built on a FN GI upper, CMMG BCG,CMMG M16A2 barrel. Lower is a Clone M16 lower from PSA..All the rest that can legally be, is USGI parts.

It has a Franklin too. BD drums are a must for use with the Franklin. Do not buy the Fostech. It will not work with the CMMG upper. Very fun Rifle.

I'm usually an assemble yourself kinda guy.

But I just grabbed one of the Tippmann arms w/7" Barrel. MLok rail, functioning bolt open/release and no polymer receivers. Those were my main requirements. I started pricing out a similar build with a CMMG/RTB Barrel and Bolt and it would have been similar/more money if I included a lower.

Only downside is the mags are not as popular, but they seem to be good quality and in-stock.

Just an update. I went with the cmmg conversion kit to play with for now. Works like a champ with the Franklin binary trigger. Cycles supers and subs great.

Great choice..You do not need anything fancy for a AR22 upper..They are about fun..CMMG stuff fulfills that criteria..Great products and great service, accurate enough, very dependable for me with cheap bulk, very good accuracy with better ammo..... What more do you need in a plinker.

I really like the Binarys also.

My cmmg and psa .22 uppers have both been equally problem free.

As noted, a dedicated CMMG 22 upper (not a conversion kit) is the way to go. Also use the Redi Mag adapter  (https://www.redi-mag.com/product/better-mag-s-22-rimfire-magazine-adaptor/ )so you can use M&P 15-22 magazines for the ultimate reliability.

I have no reliability issues with cmmg or black dog magazines. The only thing 15/22 magazines has is they are a bit easier to load than the others.

Yes my Black Dog drums and straight mags work great too. But the great thing about the SWs is the ease of loading.
