Ran into a small hiccup with a new build, I have some of the straight Pmags but the internal dims are too short for the 69gr load I’m running.

I’ve had a few metal 20’s in the past and know the dims will work, but they always had feed issues regardless of the rifle.

So who makes the most reliable straight body 20 round mags out there?

Thanks!

Okay Surefeed, IMHO.

If... you can find them.

For that price it’s worth buying a few to try. Thanks for the info.

Iive no experience with the Brownells, but would trust them implicitly, based on their reputation.

I do own okay's and they are fantastic, look the part and generally affordable if you can find them.

I have a few 20 round Okay SureFeed magazines. They are super reliable and I have never had failures with them. Okay magazines are mostly out of stock but I did see that Botach has a few Tan magazines in stock.

My okay 20 rounders can be finicky at times with 2.26 oal with my 75 grain loads. I load to 2.25 with now issues.

That’s weird. No issues with 77smk/tmk loaded to 2.260.

I think its just one of three that hangs up some times. 100% on my other 2 and my ancient colt mag.

Because seating dies don't touch anywhere near the tip, overall length can vary up to .008". I look for the bullet with a near perfect point, they tend to be the longest. Seat that bullet around 2.255" and virtually all other bullets will end up at 2.255" or shorter over a batch.

Simply seating any bullet at 2.260" and thinking every other cartridge will be that length doesn't work. Too many variations exist in any box of bullets.

I use a number of Okay 20-round mags. No problems, no failures. They are much better than okay!

I'm still using 1971 vintage 20s down range.  My 20s (Colt/UI) keep Mk318 barrier in it.

Came to post this as well.  Vintage 20's are bestest 20's .  I should pick up a few newer 20's though so I'm here for ideas.

Depends on which 20-rounder....

For the vintage straight 20’s, no the Ranger Plates don’t fit — the floorplates on the old GI mags attach differently than with a modern 30-rounder. I think Okay’s 20’s use the old-school attachment as well.

Some modern 20’s though use the newer style floorplates, same as a regular 30, and so the Ranger Plates work fine.  Not sure whether any like this have a straight body.

I find a that 20-rounder with a Ranger Plate makes for a very handy setup.  I’ve even modified the old GI mags to take one, but it’s a PITA.

Have a bunch of Brownells 20 rounders. Never had a problem.
Edit to add
Half of my mags came with the MagPul ranger floorplate. So it’s safe to say they fit on Brownells mags.

I've got ~30 or so, between Okay, NHMTG, and Colt floorplates.  Honestly I mostly only use these 20rd'ers for ranch duties and whatnot

In the early 80's you could buy new surplus Colt marked 5.56mm 20 round magazines with aluminum followers for $4.00 a pop. $3.50 if you purchased 100.

I still kick myself now and then for not going big. They are still reliable even though the finish is all but gone.

This. If you cannot find them/don't want to pay for them, however, I suggest the OKAY brand in new production.
