Looking at this part: https://www.blueforcegear.com/universal-wire-loop-uwl-3-25.html

This is clearly intended for a sling to thread through it, however, my question is if anyone has tried to make a quick release type setup by clipping a magpul paraclip to the slot for the sling?  My concern would be if the slot is too large for a paraclip to attach to.

Not sure I understand.  Paraclip would give you the QD to the rifle, then you would loop the adapter through the paraclip and loop the sling to the other end of the adapter.

I probably didn't explain it very well.

I have an older handguard on a carbine that is not mlok, picatinny, etc.  It has vent slots but they are not mounting slots.  My thought is to secure the UWL to the handguard by looping it through vent slots.  Then attach the paraclip to the metal part of the UWL, as opposed to threading the sling through it.  My only question is if the paraclip's clamp is wide enough to clamp on to the metal portion of the UWL.  I know they are wide enough to clip to GI sling swivels, so I'd assume they'd be wide enough for this, but I don't have one on hand to try with.

Ah - now I get it.  The normal paraclip, not the QD paraclip.  In that case, you probably just need a wire loop in general - either a single closed loop, or maybe one that has two eyes on the end (or maybe even paracord?).  Probably easiest to DIY with wire / ferrules from the hardware store.

I'm good with DIY, though that first one looks like shrink tube.  Not sure I'd put much stock in that.  What's that second bit you've pictured there?  I think that would work really well.

I suppose I could just paracord wrap a metal D ring as well.

Its DIY, with heat shrink:

The second one - is just an example pic; smallest premade version of that I found was minimum of 1/4" wire rope.

I must be missing something...what is the purpose of the heat shrink tube?  This is connected and held together with the metal clips, is it not?

Edit: nevermind, I found the web page those pics were from.  Heat shrink is more or less cosmetic to cover the ferrules.  Make sense now.  I think this is a good solution for what I'm trying to do.

It'll work. But it is sloppy.

Not interested in QD swivels.

If I'm reading it right, you want to run a Wire UWL through the vent holes on your handguard, and then clip a Paraclip onto the UWL? Just use this instead: https://www.blueforcegear.com/uloop
