I’m thinking of building a 10.5” with a Vox S suppressor

Yes, an unsuppressed 10.5" AR will be loud...any suppressor will help. I am not personally familiar with the Vox-S suppressor.

I can tolerate it, for a bit. Muffs are obviously best, but I'm not gonna sweat poppin off some rounds w/o em.

10.3 with 6" form1 (similar to AAC m4-2k)

You'll always hear the supersonic crack of the bullet unless you go with a subsonic bullet in 300 blackout.

It will be too loud to shoot safely or comfortably without hearing protection, and not movie quiet by any means. But much quieter than unsuppressed.

Definitely not safe when firing more than a few rounds as with practice or training, but I'd say comfortably is debatable. It will also vary depending on the can.

I shoot my 10.3" without hearing protection when varmint or jackrabbit hunting with a Surefire RC or KAC NT4. The NT4 has a deeper tone that, between the two, is more pleasant to shoot without hearing protection. That said, while the RC is definitely higher-pitched, it isn't at all uncomfortable, either. Unsuppressed, you're practically in ear-bleed territory, lol.

I'm assuming that is outside.
Have you ever tried suppressed 10.3" inside without ear pro?  I'm thinking that is still fairly rough on the ears.

It's like shooting a unsuppressed 22lr rifle. Still loud, but it won't cause your ears to bleed. Hearing protection is still recommended.

Yes.

You can get away with a couple shots outdoors or even a few indoors. It’s not comfortable, but doesn’t fill you with regret immediately.  They’re great tools to be able to use your rifle in a self defense situation without immediately handicapping your ability to hear.   You shoot any 5.56/308 unsuppressed indoors and it’s all EeEeeEeeeee for mintutes, if not longer.

A VoxS is not ideal on a small 5.56 ... small .30s are kinda loud on 5.56mm.  Case in point, my Turbo K sounds VERY similar to my 762SDN6, a respectable performing medium sized .30 cal silencer.

My 10.3 with omega 300 I definitely hearing protection. 16” barrel, no problem, way quieter

Yeah, inside the cab of vehicles and inside abandoned buildings -- it starts getting a little unpleasant if the muzzle is inside the enclosed space with you and not at least protruding a bit.

As long as at least the muzzle is outside, I don't personally find it uncomfortable.

I'll shoot a shot or two with no ear pro. Anything more and I still want plugs or muffs.

Still loud, but the suppressor reduces concussion, which reduces fatigue.

They are a lot less loud than unsuppressed.

I really enjoy shooting mine.

Mine isn’t heinous, but there’s a big difference going up to a 16” barrel.

It definitely won’t be blowing out your ear drums, but even to my deafness, it’s super loud, borderline uncomfortable.

No issue firing a couple shots, but I’m definitely wearing ear pro with it to go shooting.

My 11.85 pws mk111 sucks suppressed I can barely tell a difference

My 11.5 DI upper isn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t shoot it without very much but in a self defense situation it’s not going to rattle your brain with the can on it.
