I pulled this out of a pond on Kelly AFB 19 or so years ago and just finally got around to blasting it and giving it a black oxide dunk. I didnt pull out my A1 upper to show a better fit and I dont own an A2

no worries about snapping off the alignment lug on the barrel with that.
Looks like it locks up to the barrel lugs and the upper pin extension. You should be able to torque the heck out of that. No worries about FSB alignment either. You cold drop a plumb bob down and see how thing line up. Neat! |

There is a company that makes these minus the tabs that hold the rear lug and the upper rail - they use them as barreling jigs on their line, but they are like 350 bucks.
"Pulled from a lake" - is that similar to fell of a truck? EDIT: Windham Weaponry uses a jig similar made by a shop they have - 2uniquelcc https://www.2uniquellc.com/ |

It's amazing that if this was an actual production item that it was never common knowledge in the AR community. I've certainly never heard of one. I own several military and colt armorer's manuals and it's not in any of those. Honestly it looks to complicated to be a one off that some guy fabricated in his garage.

Someone needs to build the plate that a reaction rod would mate up with. That would be a nice pairing. Gen 2 should be adjustable to take AR10 rods and receivers ;)

Holy crap! This is a vertically mounted Windham Weaponry barreling jig.
I had no idea such a thing ever existed in military armorer use, and this predates even the Reaction Rod. How did no one ever know about this tool? I am going to link this in my Windham Weaponry barreling jig thread > here < because wow!
