Stumbled across the Thordsen Custom BD180 blast deflector on their website. Gives you another option if you want some kind of device to deflect muzzle blast. It fits over an A2 birdcage, so you get some flash suppression while channeling the blast down range. Put it on a 10.5" 556 pistol and seems to work as well as other linear comps and blast deflectors I've used in the past. Have tried it with 5 or 6 different brands of ammo while shooting during a sunny day. The only one that produced any noticeable muzzle flash was Frontier 556 62gr Spire Points.
Requires a special socket to screw on the bird cage, but Thordsen sells that too. Price for both the deflector and socket is about $35 which doesn't seem too bad to me. Next range report will be on my new umbrella stand/drink holder combo.
