I have two fiber acogs already. I’m about to purchase a third and I’m kicking around the idea of trying a led model.  Anyone care to share any pros/cons to help me in my decision?

Thanks

I had two TA110 LED ACOGs that I had to send to the factory for repair.  The LED would intermittently not turn on.

I sold them.  I have 5 TA11J-Gs now.  No problems.

It is easier to run on offset dot like a T2 on the fiber models.

I have a TA31 and had a TA33. If I get another ACOG it'll be the TA02

having adjustable illumination in an acog is awesome

i also prefer the forward mounting of an rmr on the led models

LED all day.

It's the same reason the garbage ACOG RDS sight failed in comparison to (insert any RDS ever).

Browe BCO is a better LED TA-31, just from the auto adjusting reticle.

Why?

Auto adjust brightness has never worked for me or ever really been a "requirement" or desire.  You set your LED reticle for the brightest condition you may encounter.  The one caveat to that being nightvision passive aiming.

Tape is cheap for the bloom, and the reticle works just fine without any illumination anyway. You really don’t need it.

Save the weight, go fiber.

Browe auto adjust works better than trijicon rmr auto adjust by a long shot.

Light into dark or dark into light as one example.  Whatever the brightness of the target, the reticle is immediately perfect.  Had fiber TA-31s where you're in the shade aiming at a target in the sun, reticle is black.  Or you're in the sun aiming at a target in the shade, reticle is too bright.  LED ACOGs are nice, just Browes are better.

My experience with Trijicon's MRO line has left me cold with regards to their electronics.  Full disclosure: I do think the RMR is the best MRDS on the market, but anything bigger and I want an Aimpoint.

Been using ACOGs since 1993.  I have no interest in complicating a design that has worked for me for thirty years so I'm all fiber.  In fact, I ordered a couple more just this morning.

For my uses, a TA11 or TA31 with RMR piggybacked is an ideal set up.  I will eventually try a TA11 or TA31 with AP T2 in an offset mount to see if I prefer this set up.  I didn't like the RMR in an offset as I found the "screen" too small for my liking.

I had the LED ACOGs with an offset RMRs.  As I mentioned, I had two fail.  I did not like the offset RMR.  Because of the LED knob, the RMR was at an angle I didn't like

I now have the fiber TA11J-G that I trust and a T2 on an offset Larue mount LT-724.  I think this is as dependable as it gets.  The T2 is able to be closer to the ACOG because the fiber version is more streamlined than the LED.

I wish there was a way to mount a RMR on the TA31 at the forward position, like on a LED TA02.

I believe they meant the fiber model. That one is the battery model.

I think I’m going to give the LED model a try, now to shop for the best price.

Thanks for the info.

Good choice.

Pros: the LED is brighter than the surface of the sun on the max setting, so no concerns about lighting conditions affecting the reticle.  It has all the same pros as the dual illuminated ACOGs, and the same cons.

Cons: you will burn your retina if you turn it up to max.  I'm not exaggerating.  Warranty on the LED is only five years, though I've yet to read of any electronic failures that weren't immediately fixed by Trijicon.

Got my TA110 sighted in today. Went with the red crosshair model. The glass is crystal clear and the LED is the brightest I've ever seen on a scope on max setting. Very high quality all around and feels bomb proof. I don't see what the big deal is that people make with the weight compared to a TA33 or TA31. Eye relief is great and the field of view is very good. I plan on getting an Acro P-2 to mount of top when I can find one in stock.

It was a toss up between the TA110 and the TA02.  I purchased the TA02 crosshair model. I also got a rmr for it but the mount is on back order.  I already have a TA11 so I thought I’d try something different. Should be able to get to the range this week, looks go so far.

Better add a picture of memecog for the heck of it. It’s a little large, but it’s fun to shoot with. It goes to the range each trip.

Nice! I already love the crosshair model. It is very precise compared to the chevron or circle dot. I may end up holding out for the new RMR that has the circle dot or the new RMR that is enclosed emitter that both got leaked recently. Scopelist.com has the RMR mount in stock.

If you already have a TA31 but you were thinking about getting an LED model you can have the best of both worlds by getting the REM ACOG LED illuminator for the TA31.
It clamshells right onto the TA31 and has 11 brightness settings. So you can have your fiber optic AND have LED capability. The REM ACOG is also designed so it helps reduce the reticle bloom in bright daylight.

That Remcog is plastic crap.  Level one lights up the fiber way too bright.  Waste of money.

Got to the range last week and tried it out (TA02). It was around 96 degrees out so I didn’t shoot for a long time, but got it zeroed and shot some plates at 300. Mount for the RMR should be here Monday. Seems good so far, hopefully I can get more time behind it next week.

Once you mount the RMR, you'll love the setup even more! The forward mounting of the RMR really makes it easy vs. the old TA31/TA01 style.

The magic marker fix did not work.  The controls feel like crap and there is no dynamic range to the LED intensity.  Level one is too bright.  I’m not using magic marker, duct tape, or bubble gum to fix a crappy product.  Waste of money.

LED is the way to go.

I'm trying to figure out what reticle though is best for the TA02.  I like the precision of the crosshair reticle, but it doesn't have the horizontal MIL lines of the horseshoe reticle and unlike the horseshoe only goes to 600 meters with the vertical BDS stadia lines.  I honestly don't think an ACOG is a great choice for going beyond 600 meters with, but I do like that with the horseshoe that you get ranging options out to 800 meters.  My gripe about the horseshoe dot though is that you've got that 1 MOA dot that will obscure more of the target instead of more precise crosshair lines and for me the ACOG is going to be exclusively used for distance since I'll be using a top mounted red dot for anything inside 100 meters.

So, I'm leaning heavily toward going with the crosshair reticle and just accepting that I will not have horizontal MIL lines or ranging past 600 meters.

For the Top Mounted dot I'm going with the Trijicon SRO. The negatives of the open emitter I feel are outweighted by the clearer glass and larger window for passive NVG shooting and tracking of the dot under movement of the SRO.  I'm going to reinforce it with a BROS mount for improved durability.

Scalarworks is coming out with a 1.75" ACOG mount that looks really nice as well and is only 1.3 ounces, which is insanely light and should help offset the weight of the SRO and BROS.

Nice, so you trued the weapon in at 300 meters?

What zero are going with for the RMR when it arrives?

I zeroed the Acog at 100 yards, I need to fiddle with it a little bit more.  At 300 yards I was hitting about 2 1/2 to 3 inches high using the 300 meter hash.  I had to line the 300 meter hash at the bottom of a 6 inch plate and it would strike in the middle.

My ta11 and ta55 are dead on. The ta02 is on a 16 inch 1/7 barrel. The other acogs are on 16 inch 1/8 barrels. Shooting 69gr  bthp.  Could be the twist rate, bullet preference in barrels or combination I guess.

I’ll do some more experimenting, but I to like the unit. I zeroed the rmr at 50 yards and it seems easy to use in the forward position.
