I have 2 of the MDT arca rails. One I added to an mlok AR free-float handguard, and one I bolted to the bottom of a bolt action rifle stock. I like the set up but you do have to commit to it. By the time you get a beefy tripod, ball-mount and then the arca clamps, it can add up to some serious money.
Next on my list is an adapter for one of my bipods so I can clamp that on as well if I am not using the rifle on a tripod. I'm no precision rifle expert, but the basic setup is that with the rifle on a tripod, the balance point where you clamp is closer to the magazine, but if you use the rifle off the tripod, then having a longer arca rail and putting a bipod closer to the muzzle will let you cover both options.
It works pretty good for a stable rest for long range accurate shooting and being able to pan and tilt the rifle across a wide area. Overall, it is pretty functional, but you are then tied to carrying a bulky tripod setup. I still use mine but prefer just a simple bipod and various improvised field rests as a more practical way to use my range time.
