I built a midlength AR (A2 style 16" barrel). The barrel is HBAR to be Maryland compliant. Magpul fixed stock, Magpul foregrip.
Iron sights, no lasers, flashlights optics or other gee-gaw on this thing. It's super basic. A friend commented that it was kind of heavy, so I weighed it.

The damned thing weighs 8.5-9lbs. (unloaded, no magazine). Isn't that kind of heavy?  People kvetch that an M1 Garand is heavy at 9.5 lbs.

Tell your friend to get stronger.

Honestly though, with a heavy barrel that’s probably spot on.

Fair enough. :)
I never really gave it much thought until he mentioned it. I was wondering if I chose my parts poorly and made the rifle heavier than it needed to be.

That’s quite portly.

Edit…Wow…Stupid law!!

Not sure how they define approved BBL’s

You could potentially retrofit with a BA fluted premium and a lightweight rail combo and drop some weight.

There's no legal definition of an HBAR, so as the builder you get to decide what's an HBAR.

I'm very capable of marking any barrel as an hbar.
