What spare parts should I be stocking up on? Should I just buy some extra LPK's or should it be more specific?
|

I buy extra extractor springs and O-rings if you use them.
An couple extra sets of gas rings, an "oops kit", and if you can afford it, an extra bolt carrier group. I bought some extra extractors from on guy on the EE on here too. |

87 spare AR's.
You can canibalize them, and not even miss them. Then buy 5 more to "fix" the one you canibalized. If you can even find the one you canibalized. But one of the new 5 will have some sort of issue, so you can just break it down for parts. Did you follow all that. I hope so. |

My personal defensive weapons self-identify as non-binary black-nitride-American high-speed wireless peacekeeping devices, thus to discriminate against them is bigoted, racist and anti-science........ I Do Not Kneel.

Only parts I have ever had fail were gas rings and a firing pin. All the other spare parts are really so that I can build guns at a moments notice if need be and not have to worry about supply and/or shipping when the mood strikes.

Thanks for the input, got my care package from Joe Bob today. Extra firing pins, bolt rebuild kit, extra gas rings, extra extractor and spring. Plus, since I may have a couple of extra lowers, the items required to make them functional.

The only other thing I'd add to your list is a cam pin or two. |

Buffer retainer wears out.

I owned an AR for probably the last 12 years. I shot out 1 barrel, had to replace the gas rings on one bolt, and worn out a couple of carbine buffer springs.
Also, whenever I replace a stock, I tend to have the retainer spring bend or something really crazy happen. For myself, I keep buffer springs around, the retainer pin springs, and gas keys. I have a lot of spare bolt carriers but never had worn that out yet. |

FWIW, around Black Friday some place usually has a massive sale and someone usually posts about it here on arf. I've scored LPKs (sans trigger) and complete LPKs at significant discount. I started with 2 LPKs ~5 yrs ago, and then I realized what a deal it is so the last ~3yrs I've been buying lots of 10
![]() Also, I started a thread a cpl years back and asked where to buy small parts in bulk - some guy gave a great link ... then I learned that arf archives threads ![]() |

@bootleg15
I also found this page and while I lack firsthand experience with all these parts, their lowers are legit. |

If you aren’t using 13-gallon tote bins for your spare parts, you are doing it wrong.

OP there is a lot of great recommendations already made here so.............for bolt carrier groups I use Colt and BCM. For lower receiver guts I like Spikes tactical. FWIW I have no connection to the aforementioned companies I merely use some of their kit. I hope this helps.
|
|
|
I keep several of everything, including complete BCGs, a few charging handles, complete individual spare bolts, dozens of sets of gas rings, individual extractors, all the springs, detents, all lengths of gas tubes, all the various pins, a few different buffers and a few new complete semi FCGs and a few complete LPKs for new builds and a bag full of safety selectors from changing out all my guns to ambi ones, sight parts, dust covers, cam pins, firing pins, etc.
Every receiver I buy, I also add to the spare parts inventory to keep it going in the future......whether I use them or not, they are here. |

In general, when would some of the parts in a Bolt Carrier Group and Lower start to wear out?
