Being a CT resident, we are only allowed to purchase/own an 'other' firearm, if you're not buying a pre-ban. As we understand it, the criteria are:
- A barrel with OAL of at least 12"
- An OAL of over 26" for the entire firearm
- No buttstock, so as not to be a rifle...braces OK
- VFG so as not to be a pistol (so firearm 'intended' to be fired with two hands)....AFG's only NOT OK
- Be configured and sold AS that configuration from manufacturer, or...
- Configured by an 07 FFL, stamped and essentially sold as THEIR firearm, or....
- (recently added) built from stripped receivers AS an 'other' by owner.
So...cannot be bought or built as a pistol or rifle, then re-configured as an other. That's why companies like New Frontier (or Franklin Armory?) and DLD have specific models configured and designated/sold as 'others' from the outset....maybe Foxtrot Mike as well. Until it was recently allowed to build one from 'scratch', that was the only way to get any sort of AR-based or like semi-auto non-handgun firearms unless pre-ban or grandfathered/registered as an 'assault weapon' prior to 2014.
