It’s as black as an A2 stock. The lighting in the pics on their site isn’t the best for color reproduction.

Thanks.  Been going back and forth between A1 and A2 for my Bushy since I might be putting a pad on it.  Didn't want a grayish stock clashing with black A2 two piece handguard.

At one point I had both a black and coyote C1, but sold the rifle the black one was on. I can’t guarantee it will be a perfect match but it never struck me as being “off”. It’s definitely more black than their pics look.

Any A1 stocks with A1 buttplates? I’ve seen too many with A2 style buttstocks

I’ve bought a few from US Collectors Ordnance. Refinished USGI buttstocks.

Very cheaply made stock, the butt plate is very soft plastic, there is no stop for the upper screw, the screw will go right thru the plate if you dont watch it.

I have two and bascially tossed them into my "only use if there is an emergecy" bin of parts.
The best stocks I have ever used were from Rock River Arms, has been abiout 10 years though since I used them.

They accept a metal A2 butt plate, it’s what I have on mine [shrug]

That stock definitely has issues,  but it’s kinda the only game in town for a traditional-looking stock in A1 length.  There are ways to improve it though....

As already noted, the supplied buttplate can be replaced with a standard A2 type. Likewise the sharp-edged sling swivel.

The stock has a problem in that the buttplate is poorly supported at the toe.  This can be mitigated with a simple hack — for details see the posts by “Blain” and myself in this thread:

Some folks like to fill the stock with spray foam, I suppose to deaden the hollow sound.

If you don't mind scratches, scuffs and maybe a little rust why not get a surplus one?

Numrich has A1 Type E for $25 or Type D for $28.25
If you get one don't forget to get a stock screw.

Or if you want new, Brownells has their Retro A1 Type D stock (in your choice of black, green or brown and includes stock screw) for $39.99

Colt is missing out on a huge untapped market for their "CS" military grade modern short stocks. An aftermarket exists and these fetch premium prices whenever one becomes available for sale. I would buy a dozen of them if they were to offer them for sale.

There is nothing wrong with CavArms stocks for general use and if anyone wanted to practice butt swipes until one broke they are cheap and easily replaced. Buy an extra if you think you are going to be rough with it.

Colt A1 stocks has what looks like spray foam insulation inside of them. I am sure this adds to strength. It also adds to the weight. I'm sure an industrious individual could do this at home. You could even use something to create a void for butt trap storage.

I had good luck with the Brownells A1 retro stock..
it lacks the foam inside but it’s made out of A2 polymer
